Trouble With Addons!

Ok here it is,

I have done the following things to try to get my addons to work:

~Download Addon into addon folder
~Unzipped addon into addon folder
~Started up game...no addon button.
~Deleted Addon from Folder, and Re-downloaded...looking for latest updated patch
~Unzipped that one
~Still no addon button on Character screen
~looked all over Curse for why this would be happening but as of yet...no luck

What, besides what i have aready done, has to be proformed for me to get my Addons to show up?

Here is how I do it. I have a folder that I download the AddOns into. I right click the zip file and choose extract all. This will create a folder with the same name as the .ZIP file. I delete the .ZIP file then open the new folder. It should contain at least one folder but maybe more. I copy the folders into C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons. Then I start WoW and that is it.

You are probably copying the folder with the same name as the .ZIP file and that will not work. You need to copy the folders in the .ZIP file to the Addons folder.

First off, make sure the addons are up to date. There's tons of addons on the UI sites that are old and not compatible. Once you make sure you have a LUA 2.0 capable addon, download it. When it opens in winzip and asks you where you want to extract the files, point it to your x:\wowdir\interface\addons folder. If you don't have an addons folder, you have to create it first. Also make sure the check is there for using the existing folder structure in the zip file.

HELP!!!!

Report this thread post

wel, ok ... starting from scrath, as u seem to know nothing about 'folderstructures' ...

when u download an addon u haveto extract the downloaded .zip or .rar or whatever format it is.
when u have extracted the content of the archive, check what the folder is called in the explorer.
if its the same name as the downloaded archive -> open the folder and see whats inside.

EXAMPLE:

i download nurfedui.zip
i extract it and there appears a new folder called nurfedui
when i open that folder (namely nurfedui with the yellowish icon on the left of it) i see that it contains more folders,
like: NurfedUnitFrames, NurfedCombatLog etc.

u need to copy these folders into your interface folder within WOW, not the parent folder called nurfedui

i hope this helps ...

Like Hahn said, the folder structure should end up looking like this:
(We'll use Atlas as an example addon in this case.)
{{{

  1. !html

Interface
|--Addons
|--Atlas
|--Atlas.lua
|--Atlas.xml
|--(some other stuff)
|--(some other addon)

}}}

From the folder Addons, there should only be one folder level between the lua and xml files inside each addon folder. They can have subfolders, but at least one lua file must be in the first level (Interface/Addons/Atlas/[ ]

Go by Pelf's instructions. Hahn's are not exactly right since items go in the addons folder, not interface (addons is a subfolder of the interface folder). Also, the Nufed.zip is a COLLECTION of mods, not just ONE mod. So the extracting process is a little different.
