Is anyone else having gold stolen from their pack?
I have had more stolen last night. Two weeks ago lost 250g ...and on one occasion saw one of my characters balance change from 58 to 3 before my eyes!
Contacted Blizz...they said were prepared to do an investigation ...but it probably would have meant my account being locked (some people say for weeks!). So I took the other option....got rid of all the addons....then put in a basic couple....and then things were alright for a week.
Then I got scientific. Decided to use CURSE ...got rid of all the addons again and downloaded those addons with lots of prev downloads:-Auctioneer..Atlas...Atlas Enhanced...Atlas Quest...Cartographer...cMinimapCoordinates...and Flight map....oh and CURSE Profiler and automatic installer. That was yesterday. Last night I lost 150g! Anyone got ideas on what to do?

I suggest changing your login information as soon as possible. It sounds like either someone you've shared it with (if you have) or someone who has obtained it is logging you on and removing gold from your character. If Blizzard has already started their investigation, I'm not sure if you'll be able to change it until they've come to a conclusion, though.

no I haven't shared it....and the fact that the stealing stopped when I got rid of all the addon's suggests a virus in one of them...I think it is in cMinimapcoordinates ..I'm going to get rid of it and see what happens

Oh...and I told Blizzard to not proceed when I read everyone else's dramas with Blizz investigations causing their accounts to be blocked for weeks.

Simply deleting AddOns won't protect you once your account has been compromised, which is why I suggest changing your login information.

Thanks for your advice Kody. Notice above that I said "...and on one occasion saw one of my characters balance change from 58 to 3 before my eyes!". Does that sound like someone has my login? (like I am playing?) :)

Hrm, I've never heard of that happening before -- I didn't even realize that was something possible to do with AddOns. Were you near a mailbox at the time of this happening?

No I didn't accidentally send it somewhere via a mailbox..:)
No its an addon virus mate. I have also lost quest items...like skullsplitter tusks ...I collected 18/18 went to hand in with 'Quest completed 18/18' showing...tried to hand the 18 in and there was only 13 in my pack....and no I didn't go anywhere near a bank...:) .....Then of course I couldn't collect any more tusks...because the q was 'completed'!....had to abandon it
Same with 'snuff' collected like 12/20...then found I had only 5/20.....its a little virus joke obviously. I dont know which is worst losing the gold or the quest items...:(

I've now removed cMinimapCoordinates.....and I'll see whether anything else happens. Does CURSE check all the addons for viruses?

....and does CURSE check its own download software?

Download software? I assume you mean our client. If so then of course, it's developed in our office in San Francisco.
And yes, we scan all AddOns that contain files which may contain a virus or keylogger. Do you still have the AddOns that you deleted on hand? I'd like a copy if you could email them to community@curse.com.

Well my guess is something internal on the server, since if the gold dissapears infront of you while playing since usually you get booted if another person logs on your account.
And keyloggers etc. well take AVG Free, and scan your computer, i had a keylogger once, but my internet was so unstable so i got it removed in time... luckily. And no issues with my wow so far.
Hope you get it solved mate, since it sounds annoying.

There are some viruses which infect some online games like WOW in order to log you password. One of them was even installed on a new harddrive: http://www.pcwelt.de/index.cfm?pid=844&pk=99788
I suggest that you change your password and make a complete virus scan with the newest virus definition file.

Kody wasn't asking if you accidentally mailed gold someplace - he was asking if you were near a mailbox. Addons *can* send mail on your behalf, so if you had some dubious addon then it's perfectly possible that it can transfer gold to a predetermined account by using the mail system.
That's also easily trackable by Blizzard though, so I'm sure if that's the case an investigation on their side would close the receiving accounts (thus cutting off the beasts head).

What were you doing at the time the gold disappeared? Were you in a party? Were you at a vendor or AH? Were you at a mailbox or in a trade with another char?

The WoW Launcher has an inbuilt scanner to make sure malicious activities don't happen.
You may have a keylogger or other virus on your computer. Scan, delete then change your password.

A rogue addon wouldn't come up on a virus scanner, and given that he saw gold vanish while he was logged in that kinda rules out someone having his password. Although it's always worth checking I don't think a keylogger is the culprit this time.

I am not sure about the OP but my account was just hacked the same day that the curse program updated two addons. I really wish I had looked closely which had "new versions" but I trusted Curse. Obviously I was wrong because the timing was pretty obvious.

Avoid small unknown addons unless you want to live risky.

Excuse me for rude honesty, but all your "addons stole my gold and botched quest" sounds from developer's standpoint like utter Tauren crap. There's just one way in API to get you rid of gold through addon - that's mentioned above automated mail. As you can guess, there's no way it will work overnight when you're away from WoW. And exactly ZERO ways to make quest items disappear without retracting completed status for quest itself. Either provide more correct and informative fact or go troll somewhere else. If you're absolutely sure that things were going exactly the way you've said and this suggestion manages to persuade you that it got nothing to do with addons, I highly recommend you to contact Blizzard again and tell them to proceed, so they can track it to problem with either server, your account, or your account's security in case somebody is really figured out your password.
