TOU/TOS violation?

Is using the curse client now put my account in violation with WOW update to it's TOS/TOU. In both of them they go over new rules regarding addons and third party info updaters being illegal. It also says that some 3rd party stuff is still allowed. SO I just want to know where the curse client stands. Knowing my luck if it is in violation I'm the one who'd get booted. please let me know.

If you're worried, just shut it down while you're playing and start it up so it updates when you aren't playing.

Hi there,

It's absolutely not against the TOU/TOS.

well somthing from this site is getting people banned ive talked to 4 people that have been banned and they all get addons from here and have all been banned over addons

Actually, I've spoken to a Game Master about addon updaters and profile makers and he said that ANY 3rd-party software altering or even scanning is considered illegal.

Comments?

By a strict reading of the ToS, the Curse Client is in violation. However, by a strict reading, *all* addons are in violation, unless the addon author has obtained written permission from Blizzard to create and distribute the addon.

Blizzard permits -- and even encourages -- doing many things that are a violation of the ToS by a strict reading. They've made the ToS in a CYA fashion, so it covers things they *might* want to ban, even if they don't want to ban them *now*. (This is, of course, only logical on their part.)

This means that, if you really want to know if something will get you banned or not, you need to ask Blizzard. Random commenters here can't tell you for sure -- especially since Blizzard reserves the right to change the ToS at will.

And I wouldn't take a random GM's word as gospel on it. Post to Blizzard's official forums, or send them email and ask for an official answer, if you really want to know... but remember that even if you get an official answer today, they reserve the right to change their minds.

That would only be if they alter or scan the base WoW files. Anything that you add in to the interface folder can be scanned because you put it there and blizzard set this up on purpose. The only problem I have with using an auto updater is I don't have the ability to look at what I am putitng in my client. How do I know that the person on the other end hasn't decided to drop in a virus among other things

Anyway Forsaken. . . it is possible that the people you have talked to have gotten caught up in the gold buying scheme or have done something else against the TOU/TOS. I would also want to see proof of why they were banned before assuming that it was an addon. Though addons that say. . . change the race, gender, look of a character even though it is client side is against the TOU/TOS. This includes the sometimes found "nude mod."
