I think I may be in the worst boat. I've downloaded the latest client as of 4/4/08, but when I tried to login it didn't work. Connection failed. BUT NOW, it says that it the client has performed an illegal operation and immediately shuts down. Am I the only one with this problem? Anyone know a solution?

The majority of our users (me included) does not experience this. However, it's unfortunate some do. To ensure it's not on your side, please make sure you doublecheck your logins and that you've told your firewall to allow connections from the Curse Client.
Authorizing Curse Client in your firewall
People using the Microsoft Windows XP firewall:
- 1. Click Start and then click Control Panel.
- 2. In the control panel, click Windows Security Center.
- 3. Click Windows Firewall.
- 4. Click "Exceptions"
- 5. Click "Add program"
- 6. Select "Client" (the program with a curse flame icon, easy to spot)
- 7. Click OK
- 8. Click OK again
- 9. Done
People using Microsoft Vista firewall:
- 1. Open Windows Firewall by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Security, and then clicking Windows Firewall.
- 2. Click "Allow a program through Windows Firewall"
- 3. Click "Add program"
- 4. Select "Client" (the program with a curse flame icon, easy to spot)
- 5. Click OK
- 6. Click OK again
- 7. Done
People using other firewalls:
You will need to refer to your software's own documentation.
People that have done all this and still can't connect:
Try uninstall any current firewall software (like Norton's TeamMManTM) and try again. Make sure you doublecheck your login information too.
The developer of the client will come by later and respond to your problems too.

Please make sure you double check your logins and allow the Curse Client in your firewall software. Also make sure you use the latest version found at http://www.curse.com/client/

there is really a problem zyuu on the wizard setup, the login button does not login correctly I have found this by installing 0.16.0 on a new computer that had no previous curse client installed. To go around the problem in you have to create a sample.key file and write in it:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
"wizVersionCompleted"=dword:00000001
and double click this file.
this is to bypass the wizard step and you should think to configure options manually after that with right click menus where you can setup your login/pass, wow dir etc etc, must be the temp workaround for you, the fact there is a full thread Zyuu of people saying there is a problem on logging is not a problem from us, believe me we know our passwords and to use windows, we know what is a firewall and when we have no firewall. Not a newbie inside and I'm almost 100% sure curseclient wizard has a problem because if the login test fails it does not let you click "Next" so new users are blocked there without a workaround. Up to you guys if you would like to let more members to use it because I guess actually, only those who made the upgrade from 0.15.0 and older to the new one arent having probs, like me on another comp, but on this one with a fresh 0.16.0 copy there is problems. I just wonder how you are not fixing an issue which has a thread with over 2k views, 50+ replies, most new user that want to install curse wont be able to get it working properly by this. That's simple to test just uninstall the Curse Client and think to delete registry keys in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Curse and in HKLM too, you will notice the problem quickly. Nor we are all mongoles/retarded which I really doubt lol, cheers :D

I think that you will have to check Portforward.com > guides > guides by router
select ur router, then select curse client (if its there) if its not, pick any other apllication (Doesnt matter) instead of using the ports they use, use 3020 then do it again for 80.. Also do what they said in post 5 (xp/vista firewall)
I still have the problem but am hoping I Can fix it soon.
-- Mcafee firewall gives the client Full acces Windows Vista firewals gives the client full acces Port forwarded 3020 and 80 both directions on the router still no luck..
anything else? (cant you set the client to use any upnp port like MSN and Bitlord, etc?)

Just use the regkey I posted up, the wizard is bugged and not vital to work because you can setup the exact same options later after bypassing the wizard , with the minimized taksbar icon and right click.

Please, DO NOT do what Mera_LaCroisadeEcarlate recommended. There was an issue effecting ALL logins through the curse client. No one was able to login. The issue has since been fixed.

Been fixed but not published yet ? Sorry but here 0.16.0 has still this issue so it is a workaround because without it I would have simply uninstalled the client on this computer because it does not launch... Now after applying this reg fixe, the client at least starts, gives news, install addons, I do not claim all functions are working but at least it fixe an issue enough important because preventing me to use the client and find another one. When an app is broken and authors refuse to patch it nor is vague on the issue, community shares workarounds and that's not new you know.
