Girls Playing WOW is like Guys Watching Soaps

I'm sure some of you will flame me for saying this but I really think women playing wow is like guys watching soaps. Think about it, most of the guys out there watching soaps are a lil feminine & the girls I have come across that play wow are a lil masculine. Women generally watch soaps while the men are at work and while guys play wow the woman should be cooking/cleaning right? JK

Seriously though my daughter has been pissed all summer cause I let her older brothers play wow longer then I let her. Maybe im just old fashioned but I really don’t want my daughter addicted to video games though it doesn’t bother me so much that her brothers are. Am I wrong about this and should I let her play wow as much as her brothers do??..i just don’t know....

Hey mate, just listen to your manly instincts. Slap the *** out of your daughter if needed to talk some sense into her. Seriously, if she is fat or asocial you should make her go out more/practice etc

Do the same with your sons. They shouldn't be playing video games all day either.

Its just more important for the girl to hang out more and not get isolated from other girls.

And about chicks playing WoW being masculine... not necesarilly, and if its true and your daughter is like that then you can't change much there anyway, except maybe hand her estrogen pills each day

Wow... Impressively sexist.. I think you broke the sexist fuse.. Now I need to get a new one.

Weird!

you're a sexist.

Whats wrong with girls playing MMORPGs? Why must girls watch soaps? Its their choice. You have no right to interfere. You should be fair and let your children play the same hours.

Ok fine. *female gamer bomb inc* :P

"Girls Playing WOW is like Guys Watching Soaps" and "Women generally watch soaps while the men are at work"? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. I puked a little after reading that. Last I checked, we're in 2007 and times have changed in case you didn't notice. :P Besides, the only women who watch soap operas are bored housewives (who are probably tech-impaired and don't have *anything* better to do) and grannies. With that said it's hard not to give you (warcraftisareligion) the Misogynistic Dad Award of the Year.

I am a girl gamer and I have my dad (a retired US Marine) to thank for that. We'd play Duck, Tetris, and Super Mario Bros. It's a great activity *especially* if you share it with your kids. I have to say, gaming with my dad and brothers was a great bonding experience. When my mom however would go on how gaming isn't a "girl thing to do" (and she goes on about it to this day), I'd always counter with "at least I'm not out with at the club, mooching drinks off guys, doing drugs, getting drunk and slutting it up." :P

Obviously this is biased when I say: Yes, you are wrong. You should let your daughter play WoW as much as her brothers. Heck, if they play together (the same faction and are in the same guild, etc, etc), all the more better. Get with the times, old man! Of course, keep their gameplay at a moderated level. :) Too much of anything is bad, right? :P

@ Jarlaxle: "Its just more important for the girl to hang out more and not get isolated from other girls." - To further expand this "It's just more important for the girl to hang out more and not get isolated from other girls who she can relate interests with." Being a tween, I hated hanging out with most girls my age cause they were vapid and were obsessed/busy with drama, boys ("going out"), clothes/shoes, and trying to be in the "cool crowd". :P

Also, "Slap the *** out of your daughter if needed to talk some sense into her."? FYI, slapping != talk sense into.

I totally love this "this is my narrow experience" therefor this is my over-reaching conclusion. Not only that but you had to come here to start drama by posting it.

I read your profile:
have always worked in the gaming/ECommerce industry in some form. My latest Venture (failed) was an Internet Cafe/Gaming Center.
I am currently working as a freelance Business Analyst in the RMT (gold sales) Industry. I love the latest assignment and find the RMT industry fascinating. I am not a total "sellout" though as I refuse to work for any Chinese Owned companies but there are a few up and coming American Owned companies that I would consider taking on as clients.

Did your Internet Cafe fail because you told the girls they weren't allowed in? And since we are tossing around opinions, mine is that yes, you are a sellout and helping to ruin the industry. Refusing to work for any Chinese company doesn't give you a pass.

In conclusion, the more girl/women gamers the healthier the gaming industry. Here is your soapbox back.

Seriously? What decade are we living in here.

I'm a 33 year old female, married, 3 kids, and I love my WoW. I might not devote as much time as the teenage boys out there, but I love the game. I didn't know gaming was a boy's only club, and you telling your daughter that there is ANYTHING that the boys can do that the girls can't do is wrong on so many levels. It was my husband that got me into games in general, and mmorpgs are just an extension of that. I started out on FFXI, and moved onto WoW after 2 years, and have been playing for a year, off and on.

Now, i have a gaming family. My husband and I play, our 12 year old son, 11 yr old daughter, and 4 yr old daughter all play various games. I'd rather have them home gaming than out getting into trouble. They have other interests, are not overweight or anti social, not the girls either. I would never think of telling the girls they couldn't play because the boy was the only one supposed to play.

(Also, I do watch soaps, my mom watched soaps before me, and her mom before her. Nothing wrong with that either TYVM. I just happen to prefer those than most of the other junk on daytime tv. Too many court shows, not enough of anything else.)

(One more note- I'm not manly, not masculine in any way. Slightly overweight, yes, but that's from having 3 kids, not WoW)

LMAO --- This is absolutely ridiculous. Furthermore, my husband is VERY happy I play WOW as much as he does. Most of our male, SINGLE, friends complain that they can't find a girl who likes to game. If they do have a girl, they usually have to beg, borrow, plead to get any game time with us because the said girl doesn't play games. How pathetic.

Lastly, I wonder if the first statment is true, then that must mean guys can only be interested in football, shooting woodland animals and scratching themselves in public.

(chortles madly) Ballocks!

wow.... Now this seems more along the lines of a forum troll rather than a sincere post by someone expressing their thoughts and concerns.
Who in their right mind would say such things and mean them? I picture a fat balding man, beer in hand, grimey clothes, sitting on his front porch using a bucket as a chair with 5-6 dogs running around in a yard with no grass. He turns to yell at his wife who of course is in the kitchen barefoot stirring a pot of beenie weenies and calling it dinner. Seriously though what man in his right mind in this day and age would force his daughter into an antiquated sexist role that went out the window how many decades ago? Now there are women who choose this as their fate but while your daughter is still a child you should allow her to experience lifes many facets so that she may better find her place as an adult. I personally am an educated female who through certain circumstances thought it best to be a stay at home mom but I'll be damned if I'm gonna sit my ass on the sofa and watch "soaps" while my brain turns to mush. I also resent the insinuation that a woman who plays video games is some sort of butch bull *** wannabe. Seriously like I said what person in their right mind would post such drivel and mean it? If he does mean it god help his poor daughter who will probably have her will broken and turned into a baby making machine by the time he's done hammering his sensibilities into her. I'm done with my rant to leave you with one more thing. A REAL man would know better.

Well ... I have to say the original posted of this thread needs his head examined .. lol

We have 3 female officers in our guild and they tend to be better then most of the guys.
Also, one is a model, one is a single housewife and one is a married renovations specialist. Talk about well rounded group. They all have great lives, tons of friends (on AND off WoW) and 2 of them have great careers. They do the same things any other woman does and go out all the time. They play WoW as it SHOULD be played .. IN MODERATION!! .. and Women WoW players being masculine?? .. Damn dude, I ought to send you pics of these 3 .. lol .. you'd close yer mouth right away on that one.

Saying that women shouldnt be playing WoW is like trying to tell my 2yo daughter she cant play with toy cars .. ie: GET REAL!! .. My neice (19yo that most younger guys drool over) and her boyfriend play together all the time and they love it and gives em something to do together other then her watching him sit there and play or it starting arguments cause she is bored. Women always have and always will do as they please and all the more power to em. Hell, I dare you to find a guy who never touched a barbie or played hopsctotch or the like when he was a kid (and if ya say ya didnt then yer fulla crap).

ps: I'm a 33yo martial arts instructor (shotokan karate) with 5 kids and a 25yo wife. Well built and certainly more then masculine enough and yet i can admit to watching the occasional soap on a day off (any guy saying they havent is full of it cause what else is on TV during the day) and played barbies with my sister to keep her busy when i was a kid. Stop trying to over-generalise and get with this century. There is very little in life that is based on gender these days and certainly NOT what games people decide to play or toys they play with. GROW UP!!

wow... lol... this is sad..... let women play games all they want.. why the hell is it alright for men to play games? im a man.. i play games because i enjoy them.... im assuming women do the same.

why the hell do you think that its alright for guys to play games bt not for women? seriously wtf is wrong with you? >.>

So which way do u figure is the way to play. lol Good on you, Oraslee. I hate runs. I leveled slow but steady, reading the quest text to delve deep into the WoW universe and storylines, and running instances only with other people around my level, and it was insanely fun. Stick with it.

As for this thread, the originator was obviously trolling. This entire thread should be deleted. I just wish I could get my g/f to play with me.

I play World of Warcraft and I don't consider myself as masculine. Gaming these days is less about insecure young boys losing themselves in a fantasy world and is more about people who have little time or money to spend socialising in their nearest dive. Since mmorpgs became more popular and less of a stigma to play, people have discovered that it's actually quite nice to immerse themselves into a fantasy world and clock up achievements of a different and less demanding nature than those experienced in real life. The online communities involved in such games can be as compelling and rewarding as those encountered 'on the street' and in fact make it easier to discover social groups to which a person may belong. Coupled with messenger and chat interfaces, friendships can be formed easily. You'd have to be very sceptical to not accept the changes brought about by technology and equally you must be rather conservative to ignore the plethora of opportunities to form a relationship through online networking.

How amusing. Our guild is a female majority. Most of our members went to WoW after SOE train wrecked SWG. In SWG we were one of the larger guilds on the server, with all female avatars and a majority of female players behind them.

I did find this to be one of the more entertaining attempts to fish out female players though still pathic.

Ha! I also am one the many female players on WOW and so far am the only known one in our guild but I play just as well as the rest of them! I also maintain living at college and having a pretty good social life (heck we just went to a dance the other night, dress and all!) I also maintain riding and training horses and teaching young kids. Telling a girl she can't play WOW is just ridiculous. You have no idea how many guys love that us girls play and I have so many awesome friends on and off WOW. Let girls play, it opens their minds.

There is Nothing Wrong with Girls / Women playing wow, we are all created equal in the WoW World, If it was meant for only men, Then that would make the game look like a some kind of Homo Fetish game where Homosexual Men In and Out of the closet from all over the world could play men and women characters. And with that said the Truth is most Girls / Women are Better player's Period And in General Better Healers and Tankers than Most guy's, I have played with in the game. And now with the Voice Chat live, it's nice to hear a Girls / Womans voice instead of guy's all the time.
