Why is there a forced named changed that I have been roleplaying BloodWench for 68th levels? I live on a RP server.
She was raised as a lowely tavern wench who finds out her father is 2nd in command to the Horde against the alliance,
Now she must arise and take on the responsibility to lead her people *hence Blood" in a war
She has now arrisen to Bloodwench, never forgetting her roots yet rising about to lead the Bloodelves to Victory!
The gm said there was a complaint about my name so they forced a namechange upon me. 2hrs later there was a level 1 Bloodwench created,
Not only my back story but I am BloodWench, Members Officer for The Company of the Sword, which is 225 members strong, with Tabard/ Vent/Website/ect.
I feel after 68 levels of leading my guild a name change will cause many members to lose faith in your world..to leave into the real world:( Also, my reputation as a great person who is always willing to help her family whether it be instances, Sunday give aways (yes I save all my rewards and give them away to guild on sunday's to help them power up" and various other things I do to keep our guild a family, will hurt us deeply.
Please reconsider my name change and allow me the RP Name of an Officer of a large guild who is now dis-enchanted with the wonderous world of WoW.
Thank you,
BloodWench

I can't think why someone objected to Bloodwench ^^
Perhaps because its an anagram of "Do belch now" ?
What did the GM say when you asked about the new Bloodwench ?
(I assume they were pestered by lots of pms from people they didn't know ;)
Consider your petition signed :)

I'm not really sure posting this on Curse is really going to help much of anything. I highly doubt that the Blizzard staff members pay that much attention to our forums and if they did do you think this thread would really catch their attention?
Have you posted it on the Blizzard Customer Service forums? You can also send mail to the GMFeedback if you have a complaint or call Blizzard and register your complaint over the phone.

Pretty sure it's because Wench is a derogatory term towards females...
just a wild guess.

Dozens of reasons why people can complain about a name, not the least of which is so they can create a level 1 char and start receiving mail that's meant for you...
Generally you can have anyone's name changed by saying "Hey, that name means in " and the GMs don't bother to check up or anything. They just go and hassle the poor bugger being reported.

Well, the naming rule slate somewhere that you can combine 2 words to make your name.
BloodWrench is definetly a combination of 2 word, s this name is reportable. (as many many many one).

It might be you had crossed paths with the wrong person. Seems odd you got to 68 without a hitch.

I know somebody who made it all the way to 70 and played WoW for a year and a half with the name "Arianrhod" and out of the blue somewhere reported him and he was found in violation and had to change his name.
The only thing we can think of was that "Arianrhod" is an Ancient Welsh mythical figure and somebody found it offensive. Talk about a world of BS.

Probably someone who was incapable of grammar and thought it was Aryanrhod instead of Arianrhod.

I did know someone called Wolfbane once who had been become HW at level 60 before being forced to name change - to Wolvbane I think...
But someone else did create another character called Wolfbane !
I suspect some people just like the name, and know they can force other people off it.... low-lifes :(

changing names because someone finds it offensive is bullshit imo
I should be able to name my char "Jewkilla" if I want to. Too bad WoW isn't open pvp so people could own my ass themselves, not go crying to GMs :

Well, I agree with you that you should be able to name your characters whatever you want, but I think you've gone a tad too far with "Jewkilla". Imo, they should only force people to change names if they have multiple complaints.

You are right, but thats mainly because most people don't share libertarian views as myself (irl and online) and Blizzard doesn't want to lose customers and gain bad reputation because of stuff like that.
If someone was named Croatkiller (I am from Croatia, yes), then I'd do one of the following:
1. Ignore him
2. Msg him and start talking to him about it if I ain't too busy. I wouldn't try convincing him to change it, though
3. Kill him if I was in a PvP area
4. If I was in a griefing mood, I'd report him to GMs. Not because I find it offensive, but to piss him off a bit. Hell, I bet there's quite a few people in WoW that report to GMs just to grief :D

People *do* report you just to spite you. You can even make crap up about someone's name being a deity in a religion of three people in an ancient civilisation and they'll force a name change.
I've never been reported for it, but I've had people *** about my name (RP server btw) being Kaeldorei - they tell me it means Night Elf in Darnassian. The number of times I've had to explain they mean Keldorei (which is children of the moon, kel being moon and dorei being children of which also gives my name perfect sense, child of Kael....) is just silly. I need to macro it...

Sorry, didn't quite explain right there. Kaeldorei is a blood elf, so had she of been named Keldorei then it sure as hell wouldn't work RP wise ;p
And the missus picked the name Tarz for my second ever character. Why she did is anybody's guess, but she doesn't speak Croatian so it wasn't a subtle hint ;p

Well I suck when it comes to names too. For example, the name I am currently using is from a fantasy book series (only read one of them, and thought Jarlaxle was a great character). Now I am stuck with it cause everyone knows me by that name - on the intertrucks, of course

Gotta be careful with that though. That's how ebay accounts and the like get hacked, if you use the same passy too.
It's not hard to crack simplistic passwords if you have a list of MD5 hashes (either from being a site owner or from other, less legal means) and if your victims use the same password on other sites them boom - you can steal their identity.
Moral of the story - use different passwords on different sites and make sure they're complex - 10 random letters and numbers usually does the trick.

OK, so I'm on Teranas, or however you spell it. My toon is Nastynardz..my pet is Dyrtysanchez...ya, i know....
At lvl 53 a GM named Vangourd makes me change my toon name (which I've been expecting for 53 levels) and names my pet...get this...Spot. What an anus, he obviously has no imagination whatsoever.
anyway...Vangourd is a play on the name, Vanguard, which is a tradename of Vanguard Industries among other things, a clear violation of the TOS and naming conventions.
Guess what. GM's can name your pet whatever they feel like, without accountability. I spoke to one GM named Tasavo who, when asked if I could speak to his supervisor refused and said, "ll answers within GM department are uniform and strictly adhered to by policy"..guess what, there is no policy on this. Only the procedure that they can chose your pets name, on a whim, and Spot is what Tasavo called the 'default' name and that it is there unwritten policy that "Your pet has been renamed to one of our choosing. Unfortunately we will be unable to offer name changes for pets"
That's what happens when you let the lunatics take over the assylum. And yes, I know that my toon name was on the edge and most people need to google my pets name to know what it the slang is..but really, it's a game..lets play a little.
BTW, Nastynutz was OK with the three GM's i pm'd in game after being forced to change my name.

I did know someone who wanted the name Merlin for one of his Alts.
But it wasn't available/allowed, so he decided to change just one letter.
After reaching level 5, I finally took mercy on them and pointed out they might not really want to be known as "Merkin"

Well yea j88 some are people just too carebear, and GMs have to comply to them. Its just what they are paid for.
And I am not sure how much Vangourd is a violation of the TOS. I mean, its still not Vanguard. Maybe you should try Vangourd as a name on another server and see what happens :p

Well at one time I had a snake from ZG as a pet and named him Montepython because they wouldn't let me spell it the right way. I also have an undead Warlock named Walmarticus. So far, no complaints lol.
My all time favorites though-- Tauren hunter named Quarterpounder and his pet Withcheese -
Undead rogue named Indianabones -
Druid named Danceswithtrees -
Undead named Malnutrition -
But, I agree that making the person who started this thread change her name was dumb. I was on a server where a Guild was forced to change their name because of complaints, but then, the name "The Bearded Clams" is kinda pushing it.
