## I Need Help Making an Addon ##

I'm trying to make an addon that automatically picks up specified items when a loot window appears.  The concept is from an addon called GrindLoot, but it's broken and doesn't have many options.  I want one that has a lot more options for what i'm going to pick up.  I like the MobInfo2 config dialog and want to make mine have some of it's features such as tabs.

I need someone to help guide me through getting started with it.  I have the Addon Studio.  If anyone has xfire and wouldn't mind talking to me on there, my username is freebullets1.

While writing an addon is not the end of the world having someone 'talk' you through it is not so easy to do. I would suggest looking into Grindloot and build it up from there. Start by stripping it down to just a single use and build it back up fixing as you go. Or even better take a very simple addon and look at how it works. Try a few different small addons and make them do what 'you' want.

Don't bother using the Addon Studio as most addons are so simple that it's really overkill. Just use notepad or a good text editor. No need for any kind of Lua IDE or similar program. Just try and make the simplest  functional addon that you can and build it up from there. There are no real tutorials or even good examples out there other than taking an existing addon and tearing it apart.

GL to you.

Ok, the addon studio is just to help for making the design of the window.  I'll try looking into other addons, but I'd still like someone to talk to if i have any questions instead of making a post on the forum and waiting who knows how long to get an answer.

Posting a problem when relating to any type of programming issue (C#, Java, VB, etc...) is always a better way to go. Since programming languages are just like a spoken language there will always be more than one way to get your meaning across. If I was to say do it 'this way' there will be a thousand other people saying to do it 'their way'. You will always benefit from an open discussion of programming related tasks.

So no better place than this thread right here to start your discussion. This would aslo provide all those other people who are looking to pick up some idea about what they are doing a place to look to.
