Lottery Addon

I was wondering if anyone was interested in creating a lottery addon for guilds. There use to be an old addon that would allow guild members to put money into a daily or weekly lottery. Was hoping this addon could be revived some what with improvements. Don't know if it would be possible to add to the guild bank that allowed money or items to be put up for daily or weekly lotteries.

Hi Vorlander,

I'm currently working on the Guild Lottery program .... I'm taking it over from the previous developer.

I'm still awaiting to hear back from Curseforge regarding it but I hope to have it back and running very very soon

Your guild bank idea is something I have played with, however it's very difficult to manage due to permissions for the guild bank!

If you have any questions, please feel free to PM .....

Best Regards

Oh and Xav...... You're wrong!

As long as the lottery is run within the guild and not in PUBLIC chat, then blizzard will overlook the scripting.

Lottery is not allowed to be advertised outside the guild!!!  As the scripting uses Blizzards own random number rolling, it's perfectly safe and legal! --- I have been in discussion about this with Blizzard directly (In game and via Techincal & Billing Telephone Support)

The beta files have been uploaded to curseforge now :)

http://static.curseforge.net/content/files/390/859/GLottery.zip

Please note this is a beta version, and while many bugs have been fixed some may remain.

This is version 0.8.5 ..... I'm working on version 0.9 at the moment. 0.9 will also include a document to show you where to edit certain files so you can customise the guild lottery to your guild name and style.

Spunky,

Thanks for doing this, I was researching how to create mods so that hopefully I could edit as I am familiar with programming to a degree.

May I input a suggestion, however?  Have an option where you could mass email the guild (in game of course) that would C.O.D. an amount for tickets.  That way you would get more people participating if you tried to force their hand.  Obviously by declining they could simply opt out.

Also,  a lot of guild use their guild bank money to start off a lottery.  You could say, if the lottery starts off at 100G, then winner gets 25%, if the lottery reaches 200G, then winner gets 50%, 300G winner gets 66%, so on and so forth.  That way if someone wins right off the bat, the guild bank doesn't suffer the cost too much!

Like I said, just a couple suggestions.  If you can't I will probably look at modifying it for myself, but would appreciate a better programmer such as yourself to do it!  :)

I forgot to add,

Those items plus obviously getting the calander back in working order would be great!  I don't think I had any other issues with the mod before other than the calander, it seemed to work fine other than it would only issue out even numbered tickets (which caused some issues).

I think the rate of selecting a winner, however (I think it was 52%) was just fine, however.  It allowed many times for the lottery to get bigger for the next time a good chunk of times!  Unfortunate I never won it, however as it got around 1000G a few times. lol

By the way, if you wanted to talk some more in game, I play on the Gnomeragan server under two different toons (Kaniption and Beefcurtin).  I would be more than happy to share ideas and help you test it out!

Spunkypup,

One last idea, as I do not want to forget it...

Perhaps you could also add in for lower levels.  If a lower level cannot afford the cost of a ticket (which some guilds like to do 1g per ticket), perhaps they could do it for half price.  You could have a check box in a half price field, therefore if they win they only get 50% of those who paid full price.

For instance, the guild lottery is 200G with a 50% winning to the 1st place drawing.  Each ticket is 1G.  The lower level guildy could only afford 1 ticket worth 50s.  He wins the 1st place drawing, therefore only eligible for 25% of the winnings or 50g (rather than if he would have paid full price and would have won 100g).

These are all things guildies have mentioned would be beneficial.

Let me know your thoughts!
