Hello.
I want to know if there is a list somewhere of the content of WoW's MPQ files, for purpose of changing sounds in the game.
There is already addons that are simply .wav files that you drop in the correct folder, and with the good name they will overwrite the default sounds. For exemple, overwriting the gun sound with a bow sound.
Problem is, I have no information about what is the name of the sound that I wanna overwrite. I read that these infos are withing the MPQ files, but I havent been able to read them sucessfully yet.
So is there a list somewhere for modders with the names of sounds contained in those MPQ files?
Thank you.

1. Google WinMPQ 2. Open C:\Program\World of Warcraft\Data\enGB\*.MPQ with Winmpq. 3. Scroll down until you see something like this Sound\Creature\Zuljin\ZuljinWound06.wav. 4. Right click then extract and select a Folder. 5. Open your Selected folder and voila there you go. NOTE: you can find other sound files in the other MPQs
Just a quick search i did. Google is your friend.

Be very careful here, this DOES violate the WoW TOS and you could potentially be banned by Blizz. The only folders / files that you are allowed to play in is the Interface and WTF folders with a few exceptions. You are not allowed to 'change' the sound files to your liking. Imagine someone making footsteps into a sound that says "Enemy behind you" or a texture that made all the Horde neon pink, PVP would be pointless.

I wasnt aware that there were problems with terms of agreement, since I've already saw addons that will change, for exemple, the gunfire sound into something less annoying, on this very site.
Thanks for the info. I shall let the sounds as they are then.

I may be wrong! Referring to the following page I found that this addon does indeed change the ingame sounds : http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/dow-sounds.aspx
I have always been told that by changing the default sounds / files you violate the TOS. Maybe it's just the MPQ files that you can not touch. I'm sure that someone will set the story straight. I have never had a need to change sounds since I play with my volume down all the way (I listen to music while playing) and use other means to get my attention when an event happens. On that page there is a link to a MPQ file browser if you are interested in that http://www.zezula.net/en/mpq/download.html

teek5449: It's a very grey area, but I do believe this only applies to editing the MPQ files directly (in regards to it being against the ToS/EULA).

No grey area. Any Changing of sound files or models is against TOS.

Excellent find Gaillium. This means that the addons that are currently hosted on Curse that do indeed change the sound files need to either be removed or have a notice added to them that informs users that by using said addon that they do indeed violate the TOS.

Please don't disinform other people, when you don't have clear picture what this thread is about.
This thread is only about putting our own files into C:\World of Warcraft\Data\Sound\ directory, so there is nothing aganst TOS, and there is no GREY areas, as it's allowed. For example i don't like my hunter pets screeching sound, so i put into C:\Games\World of Warcraft\Data\Sound\Spells\ file named screech.wav with some other sound or just empty 0 bite file. And sound is gone, WITOUT modifications of any MPQ.
And i do want to see how named and in what directiories are other sound files, so i can get them silenced. Like hunters gun sound (C:\Games\World of Warcraft\Data\Sound\Item\Weapons\Gun\GunFire01.wav etc.) or for example mail chest armor anoying jingling (still can't find, so i need some MPQ viewer to see dir and name).
