Same here. Running Mac OS 10.5.5.   I've emailed wowecon numerous times and they NEVER answer the messages. AND I'm a paid subscriber!! Don't give these folks your money if you expect any help from them.
Here's my error log. I will send it to the great black hole that is WOWEcon email.  lol

I did subscribe to the premium WoWecon for a while but didn't find the price alerts or watch list all that helpful.

And, paid or not, I've yet to hear of anyone _receiving_ any email from that company.

Try opening the get info window and clicking "use rosetta". It appears the code is not universal.

Report this thread post

You're a lifesaver, that did it.

For some reason, it didn't show that rosetta checkbox sometimes.  Maybe it was using Cmd-I vs. the context menu.  <shrug>

Now, it crashes on exit of the game, but, apart from the error box, that doesn't seem to affect proper operation.

Report this thread post

Thanks, MLWEB. The "use rosetta" seems to work, and radellaf, good tip to use ⌘I since the context menu had the "use rosetta" button dimmed.

No thanks to WOWECON.  Super Angry

At least I'm not the only one they ignore...

The Bad News... It doesn't appear that the data is being sent back to WOWEcon. Apparently the program crash at the end of the WOW session prevents this. I noted that my paid sub page shows no new info after the 23 Nov. update.  Why won't these guys answer their email??   :o(

I was able to fix this by symlinking the missing dylibs.

/opt/local/lib/libpng.3.dylib -> /usr/X11/lib/libpng.3.dylib   (probably need Apple's X11 installed for this one)

/opt/local/lib/libjpeg.62.dylib -> /sw/lib/libjpeg.dylib   (had to install libjpeg through Fink)

Now it doesn't crash at startup or shutdown, and no need to "use Rosetta".

Aha. Well then.   As someone with somewhat limited Unix, linux or terminal experience,  is this what we need to do?

Find these files on our Macs, easy to do with Spotlight. I copied them to my WOW folder.

Then we write the first part of your terminal command as you have (/opt/local/lib/libpng.3.dylib), and replace your second part (/usr/X11/lib/libpng.3.dylib) with the location on our Macs.  So for me, I would write

ln -s /opt/local/lib/libpng.3.dylib  /Applications/World of Warcraft/libJPEG.dylib

and

ln -s /Applications/World of Warcraft/libjpeg.dylib /opt/local/lib/libjpeg.62.dylib

This did not work, as I did not have the /opt directory. So I made the directory structure called for ( /opt/local/lib ) and tried linking to it. That didn't work. Then I actually PUT the files libpng.3.dylib and libjpeg.dylib into the new directory I made. Now I get the error

Dyld Error Message:
  Library not loaded: /opt/local/lib/libpng.3.dylib
  Referenced from: /Volumes/WOWEcon Install/WOWEcon.app/Contents/MacOS/WOWEcon
Reason: no suitable image found.  Did find:
    /opt/local/lib/libpng.3.dylib: can't map

Any help will be MOST appreciated, since the WOWEcon folks don't reply, even to a paid subscriber.

thanks!

I wish WOWEcon would fix this or at least answer their email!.

What is the error message for the crash at the end? I used to get one because wowecon was trying to write to a file that it didn't have permission to. I have a muli-user system and admin owned the file. I had to edit the permissions of the file to allow everyone to write to it.

Console log for the crash follows.  This is with it set to run under rosetta.  it starts fine, launches WoW, and then crashes after quitting the game.

Also see my posts, MLWEBB!!  I've tried running wowecon.app on three mac so far, all giving the same error concerning the libpng.3.dylib file.

Sorry, can't help very much. I don't get the error and I can't find libpng.3.dylib on my system. I am not using wowecon premium and I haven't upgraded to 10.5. Perhaps these as factors.

Report this thread post

If you don't have X11 installed you can install if from your OS disc. These came with your computer or it's on the disk if you've upgraded from Tiger to Leopard. Once X11 is installed the following command worked for me to get rid of the first crash. Open /Utilities/Terminal and type (or copy/paste from below)

sudo ln -s /usr/X11R6/lib/libpng.3.dylib /opt/local/lib/libpng.3.dylib

You'll need to enter your admin password and it should work. Next I get a crash looking for /opt/local/lib/libjpeg.62.dylib

Thanks, but I still get the following:

Dyld Error Message:
  Library not loaded: /opt/local/lib/libpng.3.dylib
  Referenced from: /Applications/World of Warcraft/WOWEcon.app/Contents/MacOS/WOWEcon
Reason: no suitable image found.  Did find:

THANK YOU!!! I used FINK to update the libraries, and then made the symlinks into the /opt/local/lib directory I created. Such clear instructions!!!

No crashes on startup or shutdown.  Back in business...

Thanks again.  If you were on my server, I'd be sending you 20 Savory Deviate Delight!!!   lol

Hi RP, I suppose I did leave out the step of creating the directory. Go into your Terminal program in /Utilities/Terminal and type or copy/paste the following. You'll need to authenticate with an administrator password when asked.

sudo mkdir /opt

sudo mkdir /opt/local/

sudo mkdir /opt/local/lib/

then try the steps to make the symlink again from the previous post.

Report this thread post

Thanks for the tips - I had to do the rosetta thing and the 2 symlinks to get rid of all the crashes.

Report this thread post

Also note that if you d/l and install fink you dont need the X11 dylibs (libpng.3.dylib) you can use the fink version.

Therfore alternate fix is:

1. Create /opt/local/lib directory

sudo ln -s mkdir /opt

sudo ln -s mkdir /opt/local

sudo ln -s mkdir /opt/local/lib

2. Download and install fink as per previous post instructions and run the updates as instructed on the fink download page

3. Install both the libjpeg and libpng binaries using fink

start the fink commander, scroll down to the two binary packages libjpeg and libpng and install

4. Link to the fink binaries

sudo ln -s /sw/lib/libjpeg.dylib /opt/local/lib/libjpeg.62.dylib

sudo ln -s /sw/lib/libpng.3.dylib /opt/local/lib/lib.3.dylib

5. wowecon should now be usable without using rosetta and without errors

Hope this helps.
