error 5

When trying to install any addon I get this error:

Can someone please help me with this? My new laptop came with Vista and I do not have a clue what to do. Thanks

I fixed it. I deleted all of the addons in that folder and now it appears to be working.

Blame Microsoft for incompetence. Really, I am not joking. The reason Blizzard moved World of Warcraft OUT of the program files was because of MS's silly security settings, and that they wouldn't let programs add, delete, or modify their OWN code.

Programs in the "program files" folder? What a ridiculous thought! Stick out tongue

While I don't know what "error 5" is, I can help you somewhat: read the first post in the sticky. If that doesn't help (try everything) then come back here and the community will suggest something, I'm sure.

I love the way Vista handles security. Once you are familiar with it there are no issues at all. The reason that Vista dislikes WoW is that the exe is trying to write to a user folder, which shouldn't be an issue. I believe that the problem is the fact that WoW is directory independent. There is no real way for Vista to know that WoW is a valid and authorized program.

The issue that I have now is from the last patch. They changed the way that the launcher is 'launched'. My firewall pops a warning every time now. Why do we need new a temporary launcher created at each runtime? I'm not willing to just add a blanket, "allow all 'launchers' in the temp directory" rule to my firewall. For now it's just a simple click to allow but who knows where they are going with this.

See my "Thread to end all threads thread" for the answer to your question!
