Idea for wintergrasp timer using different method of calculation (request for input)

Curiously, wouldn't the best way to build a wintergrasp timer be to automatically start a 2 hour and 30 min timer as soon as it picks up a player near you getting the essence of wintergrasp buff?

I know there are currently mods that let you know when there are hostile players in the area based off auras they receive and actions they perform based on radius to your player. Use one of the current (talk to the battlemage to start) timers as a default timer and leave it in the background as default if no buff change has been recorded. I am not sure however if essence of wintergrasp reapplies itself after each WG regardless of whether you previously controlled it (and has E0WG buff) and successfully defended it or not.

Not a coder, and I have no idea if this is even possible, but i thought I'd mention the concept.

This would only be able to work as a supplemental method, and would not be terribly precise, due to latency, server propogation of the buff, etc. It would be nice to get a ballpark figure for the timer though. If this works, I would rather not be able to share that value for the timer and instead trust other users who have visited the battlemage.

 

If EOWG gets refreshed after every battle, this will work a lot better.
