Linux update

From this post: http://war.curse.com/forums/t/56147.aspx

Kody seemed to indicate curse was going to work on a linux client.  Is there any truth to this?  If so, any sort of ETA?

There is a possibility, as it is something we'd like to support.  However it is such a small % of our userbase that we can't promise when or if we'll be able to do so.

I appreciate the response.  Yea i know we're a small % so really wasn't getting hopes up, just had noticed that post so figured I would ask.

It's something that I'd like to offer, I just can't give a better timeline :(

Just wanted to say incase anyone looks here, curse client works great with wine 1.14 at least.  Should of tried this before posting I guess.  It scanned my addons directory and found them all and downloaded new ones.  It works great.  Thanks for this.  Makes updating mods so much easier.

I'm using Ubuntu 8.14 and I was able to use the curse client successfully until i updated to the .17 client.  at that point the system is unable to page to the sub application that the curse client loads when it initializes the main client screen after the login event is successfully completed.  The process goes zombie which tells me that its actually calling another client process and through a fault in WINE the system basically never completes the call.

Kaelten lets just refocus and say we are talking windows only.  Does the curse client fork its process to another library after it successfuly completes the login event?  If so could you offer an option for programming purposes we'll say windows users to have a preference setting where the process doesnt fork or at least stays resident while the secondary library is called with the new login credentials?

I know it relaunches itself on vista due to UAC gayness.

Other than that no it doesn't to my knoweldge.

Thanks for the info necrit, for now I'll stick with .14.

Alright is there a way we could use the .14 client until the team has a chance to address linux in the future?  The direct download to the .14 client isnt published.  Could you retro publish .14 for us to get a chance to utilize the curse client?

Also i never had a chance to say congradulations on striving to expand the potential of the ACE universe.  I am one of the supporters of you and your efforts for one reason im personally aware of what it takes to maintain and manage an infrustructure operation that can quickly expand beyond ones means.  Im glad you were able to work out a solution that allowed the potential of the applications you and your teams have been working on to continue. :D

I could email it or something if you wanted, put it up on my Google site page if I had permission.  Although I just downloaded RC1 .17, and it works fine on Ubuntu 8.10.  Scanned my addon directory, updated them, everything went fine.  BTW RC1 looks very nice.  Like it alot.

Kaelten.  I salute you.  Version 2.1.2.1 is so friendly to the linux environment that i finally was able to perform my first update via the curse client in Ubuntu 8.14 with only a few changes.  For those that are interested i use Also OSS to mix my sound environment in WINE.  My launcher command line is aoss wine "C:\Program Files\Curse\CurseClient.exe"

This along with the changes to the way that the application loads its windows has made this client stablize on my specific system.
