Listen here; this is my issue.
15:05:29: Failed to copy the file 'C:/DOCUME~1/Lori/LOCALS~1/Temp/Carbonite Quest/Carbonite/Bindings.xml' to 'C:/Program Files/World of Warcraft/Interface/AddOns/Carbonite/Bindings.xml' (error 5: access is denied.) 15:05:29: Failed to copy the file 'C:/DOCUME~1/Lori/LOCALS~1/Temp/Carbonite Quest/Carbonite/Carbonite.lua' to 'C:/Program Files/World of Warcraft/Interface/AddOns/Carbonite/Carbonite.lua' (error 5: access is denied.) 15:05:29: Failed to copy the file 'C:/DOCUME~1/Lori/LOCALS~1/Temp/Carbonite Quest/Carbonite/Carbonite.toc' to 'C:/Program Files/World of Warcraft/Interface/AddOns/Carbonite/Carbonite.toc' (error 5: access is denied.) 15:05:29: Failed to copy the file 'C:/DOCUME~1/Lori/LOCALS~1/Temp/Carbonite Quest/Carbonite/Carbonite.xml' to 'C:/Program Files/World of Warcraft/Interface/AddOns/Carbonite/Carbonite.xml' (error 5: access is denied.) 15:05:29: Failed to copy the file 'C:/DOCUME~1/Lori/LOCALS~1/Temp/Carbonite Quest/Carbonite/CarboniteLicenseAgreement.txt' to 'C:/Program Files/World of Warcraft/Interface/AddOns/Carbonite/CarboniteLicenseAgreement.txt' (error 5: access is denied.) 15:05:29: Failed to copy the file 'C:/DOCUME~1/Lori/LOCALS~1/Temp/Carbonite Quest/Carbonite/CarboniteReadMe.txt' to 'C:/Program Files/World of Warcraft/Interface/AddOns/Carbonite/CarboniteReadMe.txt' (error 5: access is denied.)
I have read every spot of detail discerning other peoples' problems that deal with the Error 5. So far, I have come to no conclusion, but let me put my problem into detail.
The only addon that shows up in my addons button on the Char. Select screen is CurseProfiler 2.0. I have everything set where it's all supposed to be, all in the proper directiories, in the AddOns folder in Interface, EVERYTHING is in check. Old addons no longer needed are deleted, and all that jazz.
When I try to install any new addons, like Carbonite up there, I get the error messages listed above. When I try to UPDATE as well, same results as above.
However, these error messages do not show up on the first user of my computer, and it runs with Godspeed and perfection. On this user, it does the errors listed above, and no new addons get into the button.
All users are administrators and have same priveleges as each other.
I am using Windows XP 2000.
What's up with it?

Please walk us through the steps that you take to reproduce this error (step by step). Literally:
step 1: download Carbonite Quest from Curse.com and save to C:\FOLDERX\
step 2: I extract the carbonite.zip file to C:\FOLDERX\carbonite\ folder using the XP zip file handler.
etc
etc
This way we can tell what steps may be producing this error. The more detail that you provide the better we can assist you.

All right.
- Opened Curse client.
- Searched for Carbonite.
- Downloaded it through Curse.
- Files automatically placed into the addons folder, (the normal spot, you know)
- The error messages shown above appear after downloading
- Carbonite appears in my active addons on the main screen in Curse anyway.
- Checked for updates, same error messages.
- Tried opening WoW, logged in, went to character select.
- In addons button, showed only Curse Profiler 2.0, and nothing else after waiting for 20 minutes.
Does not show Carbonite anywhere in game
Carbonite is in addons folder.
Also installed manually to desktop, from Curse website. Extracted zip folder, unzipped Carbonite folder on desktop. Placed in C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns.
That's all there is to it. Even from the first way I did it, through Curse client, I checked for the file, ended up in same directory...

OK, first of all make sure that your path is correct in the Curse client. Not sure what menu it is under but it is there. Your path looks to be correct as long as WoW is actually instlled in C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\ .
As for manually installing it are you:
1. navigated to the http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/carbonite-quest.aspx page
2. Clicked on the "download" button then the "manual install" on the following page.
3. Saved the CarboniteQuest2.030.zip file to the <DESKTOP>
4. Right-clicked on the CarboniteQuest2.030.zip file and selected "Extract All..." from the menu.
5. Extracted to <DESKTOP>\CarboniteQuest2.030 folder
6. Right-click on the Carbonite folder inside the CarboniteQuest2.030 and chose copy from the menu.
7. Navigate to C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns and then right-click and select paste from the menu.
8. Observed that the new Carbonite folder inside the C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns folder was present.
9. Open up WoW and log into the character select screen.
10. Click on the "addons" button and confirm that the addon is present AND active.
11. Enter the playing world and confirm that the addon is indeed running.
BTW that is what I mean when I say step by step :)
If that procedure does not work there are more possible solutions to your problem. Please let us know if you have any success with changing your path in Curse client or by exactly following my steps.

I'm sorry I couldn't reply earlier, but I have followed your steps EXACTLY. Sorry for not being clear either.
Anyway, I did what you've said directly. I've waited a couple minutes after step 8, just to be sure it routed itself into the game...yet still, I opened WoW, logged in, checked the addons button, and only Curse Profiler 2.0 was present, nothing more.
And I made sure CarboniteQuest was in the specified directory; it's all set. I don't know why it is still refusing to work. Perhaps you have another answer?
Thanks,
Rinicus.

Do you have multiple accounts on your XP machine and have you tried the admin account and log into WoW. Just to check. This should make little to no difference unless you have a very restrictive account that you use as your daily login.
If that does not work and you have no additional information then I have no more. That works 100% of the time making some basic assumptions:
1. You are on Windows XP
2. You have WoW installed in C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\
3. There is a C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns folder
4. You have tried other addons and the result is the same.
If you really, really need to try just one more thing you can always run the repair.exe in the WoW folder. This will set WoW back to default losing all your settings and removing any addons that already exist. This will let you start from fresh.

Yes. My XP 2000 has four accounts--each with administrator priviledges. The first one has no trouble getting any addons to run. As for the one I am having trouble with, it allows me to run and play WoW just fine, with the exception of any AddOns besides the Curse Profiler. Curse Profiler 2.0 is the only one in the Addons list on the character select screen, even when Carbonite is installed in the proper directory.
I've noticed repair in the WoW folder and have clicked it once, just to see what it was. By reading that it deletes some things, I was worried that it might erase my accounts and characters. Can this happen by running repair? Or will it be settings such as:
- Show Launcher
- Video settings (for WoW)
- Audio settings (for WoW)
- Gameplay settings
- Interface settings
- All addons that exist
Or anything other?
I just want to be sure of this before I run repair. Hopefully that will work.
Lastly, will it get rid of the annoyingly long Error 5 thing in my first post?

dont know if this will help you but from looking at your error it seems that you tried to install the addon one folder to deep(i may be wrong) the path says C;/........carbonite/carbonite quest....... carbonite quest should be the first part of that directory so open the carb folder and just copy that
If that doesn't work ive heard of people having problems with certain unzipping programs maye try a diffrent one I use winRAR myself
Hope that solves it for you

That's where the files are coming "from" not going "to".

Yea, the paths are a bit weird. I am still not completely sure what he is trying to do there but that is why I gave him EXACT directions and he said that he followed them. If he skipped some steps of just skimmed the directions and thought that is how he did it already then I can't help that. The way I described should be foolproof on XP.
BTW, the repair utility will not remove accounts, that would be silly for Blizzard to include an application that would remove your account. LOL imagine all the posts then on how to recover your account. They give use some options on how you want to repair, use the full (or check everything) option. This will remove all local settings and just make it like you just installed WoW on your machine after a fresh OS install. Your account and keybindings are stored on Blizzs end and are safe from deletion.

It's all in the right places, I know that for a fact. The directories in the error have not been modified, and it is completely natural where they are heading in.
Think of it this way, in layman's terms for downloading through Curse Client:
- Downloaded Curse client from Curse.com
- Curse was given its own directory as C:\Program Files\Curse.
- Curse was automatically placed in the taskbar next to computer clock.
- Double clicked the Curse symbol.
- Logged in as Rinicus.
- Searched for CarboniteQuest.
- Left clicked on CarboniteQuest in the list and clicked install.
- Curse attempted to install in automatic directory.
- The error messages appeared.
- Saved the error messages for reference.
- Curse appears in the list of current addons in the Curse Client's main screen.
- Exited out of Curse Client.
- Double clicked World of Warcraft.
- World of Warcraft runs, logged in onto the Cho'Gall realm.
- Clicked AddOns button, no new AddOns besides the Curse Profiler 2.0 were shown.
- Entered the game world by clicking Enter.
- Looked around the screen for a sign of CarboniteQuest.
- CarboniteQuest was not found.
That's pretty much all the detail I can provide to my predicament. Up and through installing CarboniteQuest on my primary user works on my primary user. Doing the steps listed above does not work on the user I am dealing with. For more information, please read my first post.

Did you try the method that I took the time to detail for you? Forget about the Curse client for now your error has to be narrowed down first. You may even want to uninstall the Curse client until you fix your original problem. Again, forget the curse client and lets just get an addon installed manually. Please take 10 minutes and follow my instructions to a 't'. You seem to be sidetracked by the fact that the curse client shows and not your other addon. Also forget Carbonite and try another addon, ANY other addon. Maybe something small.

Sorry, I've been a bit narrow minded about it. I have tried your detailed breakdown of a possible solution. I guess, maybe in some way, uninstalling it may work, so that is something I will have to try. I will also try another addon, possibly Deadly Boss Mods, and I will get back to you on the subject when I can.
Also, thank you Teek for sticking with me on this.

Very strange. I tried reinstalling Curse after I removed ALL ADDONS on my system. It was in the automatic file C:\Program Files\Curse this time and yet, the error message in my first post showed up and still recognized Carbonite during the installation process, and the installation process was terminated. I have searched my computer thoroughly after I removed Carbonite. All files and everything associated with CarboniteQuest was removed by me, along with all other addons on my system. It was clean. Now I am confused, yet again.
Also, I ran the repair which came with WoW. I used the first option it came with, and it searched the cache. It went through 17 waves and nothing out of the ordinary was highlighted.
Note: I did not try to reinstall Carbonite again. I was trying to reinstall Curse, then go for Deadly Boss Mods. However, I could not due to the installation error.
Any ideas?

As teek pointed out already, stop fixating on using the Curse Client. What he's trying to do is see if you can get an add on to work with out the curse client, but you so far have not done that. We've already figured out that the Curse Client is having issues installing add ons to the WoW folder under the user your on. What we need to know is if the user your on can put in thing in the WoW Add Ons folder at all. We won't know this until you follow teek's directions.

The error isnt connected to WoW or carbonite in any way. Two things could be the reason - no write acess rights for target folder or copying program (what is it - some command line utility? 'C:/DOCUME~1/Lori/LOCALS~1/Temp/Carbonite Quest/Carbonite/ looks like old 8.3 style path - its really 'C:/Documents and Settings/Lori/Local settings/Temp/Carbonite Quest/Carbonite/) cannot map source folder path string into prop1er folder path, or cannot acess it due to access rights. It seems that program using Temp directory - defined by system environment variable TEMP which default is %USERPROFILE%\Local settings\Temp\ that is C:\Documents and Settings\<User name>\Local settings\Temp\ (btw why program shows slashes insteda of backslashes? it is not allowed in 8.3 notation though it's legal in normal URL)...
Try to change path to temporal directory in windows environment (Control Panel ->System->Advanced tab -> Environment variables) by changing TEMP variable value to some short and existing folder (for example create C:\temp and set TEMP=C:\temp) Also change access right for WoW folder and Interface folder - though you got admin right it is not 100% that ACL of folder is set to proper values - to not to think hard just add full access for all users.

EllAnteres the biggest problem that I think that Rinicus is having is that he just can't try this without the Curse client. Like I keep asking him, get it running manually then we can work on the other problems. My first step anytime that I am having problems with a program is to reduce the issue to its simplest form and get one piece working at a time. If Rinicus insists on skipping my advice I am no longer going to give it.
SKIP CURSE AND CARBONITE AND JUST GET A SIMPLE ADDON RUNNING MANUALLY!
This is my last post in this thread unless we see some progress.

You are all right, somewhere, in this whole mess, I've been missing some point herein. As soon as I am able, I promise you, this issue will be resolved. I'm sorry I've been rambling on incoherently about the Curse Client and Carbonite. They were questions you've already answered. I feel as if I am blinded in the chains of my own ignorance, but I will fix this issue. I will reply soon with results. Currently I am out of town, but will be back tomorrow.

I think I found the problem (Yes, I believe we are finally getting somewhere).
I tried manually reinstalling it again this time. What I have noticed though, is that (Don't freak at this, but it is the only Addon that I need in particular, but I believe this was the issue the whole time) the problem was the Zip folder that CarboniteQuest came in straight off of the manual install from Curse.com.
Instead of it being CarboniteQuest2.030 like Teek said at the very start of this thread in his elaborate step-by-step instructions, the Zip folder that I downloaded to my desktop said CarboniteQuest2.020.
In theory, I think this was what led us on this wild goosechase. Please, hear me out. I really want this to work as much as the next guy, and take note that I am not trying to diverge from instructions.
I've tried a different mod, such as manually installing Deadly Boss Mods; instead, while I tried to extract, it kept asking for a password on every single file, which was frustrating.
Changes I have made through this thread:
- Stopped using Curse on this user.
- Analyzed the articulate errors in my installation process
- Attempted to manually install.
Yes, yes, I know it was a burden I've placed on you, but now now the blind can see (metaphorically, I am the blind).
Consider this Carbonite error (I know you are probably sick of the word by now) and see if you can try and help me further. I know I am making progress. :)
Also, sorry it took almost a week to respond again; issues with work and such.

Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait....
I don't know what I did, or what the frick happened, but I think I am seeing things...
It's working...it's actually working!
Yes, it happens to be Carbonite...but I also have a question that I never got around to asking before: Right now, Carbonite is saying it needs to update because the version expired, and I went to carboniteaddon.com to sign up and download the new version. Carbonite is free, yet why is it asking for my billing information too? Can I not download the new version without inputting my billing info?
Overall, I am glad it's working at least :) Thanks for your continued patience and understanding. If there is any more information you can provide to further help me with this, please post.
Edit: I've just figured out the billing information bug, in fact it was a bug. Please disregard that issue.
Also, I just want you all to know that I truly appreciate your help
and consistence with me. Yes, I tend to over read important material
sometimes and I can be a bit too hasty, but I still cannot thank you
enough for your kindness and assistance with my problem. If I ever have
any further errors, I will notify on a new thread. Thank you gang, and
many thanks to you Teek for the persistence! Cheers!
