I have the same problem.  It happened since the downloader started downloading the latest patch data for WoW.  Since then I get that error everytime I start up my system and my curse.com client won't work anymore.  It has disappeared from my systray completely and when I try to restart it nothing happens.

This the error i get in a blue edged box with the red circle, cross through it:

Updater.exe cannot be found you may have typed the name incorrectly please try again

?????????

I haven't type anything up to this point.. the system is just firing up.

How do I cure this? Can anyone help?

It just happened to me as well; on both my desktop and my laptop computer.

I just ran Lavasoft Ad-Aware for the first time since I installed the Curse client on both computers; that might have something to do with it.

It might have nothing to do with it as well, though...

I have mine set to launch automatically at boot, I got this last night and again this morning when I booted. I ignored it last night but this morning I started the client manually and it launched but now due to no action of mine I am now running a trial version of the premium version.

No offence but I didn't ask for it and I don't want it. How do I get the "standard" version back?

I shoud add that I play Warhammer.

My Updater.exe error began just as the background downloader for WoW finished this current pre-patch.  In the middle of the game I got the "unable to find Updater.exe" and the Curse loader shut itself down.  When I turn on the computer now my automatic loads show the updater error and am unable to start Curse manually.  Would reloading the files from the website be any help?  Has anyone done this?

Please redownload the curse client installer and run it http://www.curse.com/client/

An early curse ciient beta had a bug in the app

Sorry about that

I did that but now i can not remember the password for the curse account.  My browser knows the password so when i try to reset the password the browser puts in its password and bypasses the password reset screen, fugg!

My concern is, the premium version was automatically downloaded to my pc and installed when I was forced to launch the client manually because it would not auto launch.I can understand the auto update of the standard version of the client because thats what I have (well, had) installed. Why/how was the premium version auto downloaded? I did not ask for it.

I started getting this error after windows did an auto update, so I check their website for my update history and found they had installed a small program to disable infections....he's the discription

Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - March 2009 (KB890830)
After the download, this tool runs one time to check your computer for infection by specific, prevalent malicious software (including Blaster, Sasser, and Mydoom) and helps remove any infection that is found. If an infection is found, the tool will display a status report the next time that you start your computer. A new version of the tool will be offered every month. If you want to manually run the tool on your computer, you can download a copy from the Microsoft Download Center, or you can run an online version from microsoft.com. This tool is not a replacement for an antivirus product. To help protect your computer, you should use an antivirus product.

I think they removed all files named updater.exe just to be safe, and the curse client just happened to have one too.  Therefore, I agree with Net, reinstalling the client might fix the issue.

I don't let windows auto update.

My question is, this morning when I got the warning that win could not find updater.exe so as to auto launch it, I was able to manually launch it from the shortcut on my desktop that has been there since October, but when I did it installed the "Premium" version. A version that I have never had and don't want.

And, yes, the client will now auto launch on win boot. Thats not my concern. My concern is, why was I not given a choice on which version to install when I manually launched it from the shortcut on my desktop this morning before I redownloaded it from the link provided by Net this morning. Incidently, that link is to the "Premium" version. I don't want the premium version.

All I did was go into Local Disk > Program Files > Curse

then renamed updater to updater.exe

then it worked!
