Carbonite quest

Anyone got any idea when the new version will be realeased Im MISSING IT SOOOO MUCH AT THE MOMENTdidnt realise how much I depended on it :(

Report this thread post

Yeah. It's out now. All that it requires is some money. And I can't describe how I miss my scalable minimap that is tied into a visible quest log. If I can't find anything to replace it, i'm going to serious consider forking out cash for.... a freaking addon.... to a game that I already pay to play.

Carbonite is awesome. Much better than QH in my opinion, but still.... I swore I'd never do pay money for an addon when I started this game. The words redundant and unnecessary spring to mind.

just use the previous version of carbonite(2.02)until they get the "bugs" worked out . it still works fine.

Sadly.. Im angry and enraged over it and have brought it to the attention of Blizzard about them charging $14.99/yr $2.99 2month thing.

I hate to play devils advocate BUT, no one is forcing you to use ANY addons. In fact for addons to have remained generally free for all this time is quite amazing and you should be thankful for all the time and effort that authors put in to something that you demand to be free. How is is Blizzards fault that you have to pay for an addon. If Blizzard had their way they would most likely ban addons all together. You need to understand that addons are a privilege and not a right. I am all for an addon with this complexity charging a small monthly fee for use. Do you have any idea the amount of time that the author(s) have to put into an addon like this develop it and maintain it? It's not just minutes but hours and hours. Is their time not worth something. With as many alternatives out there you need to show the author that you disapprove of the monthly charge by using some other addon. If enough people do this they may decide to offer it for free again.

With all this said you pay for WoW every month but you expect addons for free?

See my "Thread to end all threads thread" for the answer to your question!

I was also pretty bummed to see that carbonite quest costs now, but when I went back to questhelper and pulled my hair out, I thought - and continue to think - it is well worth the few extra bux to use carbonite, since it's a far better produdt.

It does kinda suck but if ya want the best, ya gotta fork over the rest....of your cash, that is....

Truth be told add ons are a big part of the game, Blizzard knows this and would never ban them. The Lua system was designed from the start to allow and promote add on development. I believe that I did read some where that blizzard early on said that to charge for and pay for an add on was agaist their terms of service, now I have not looked into this recently so I can say for sure on that point but I think that was the case. I believe they have backed off going after the people who chose to charge for these addons, as there are a few now, Brian Kopps in game guide, Carbonite, and there is at least one more in game guide that charges as well, they have not gone after the authors of these guides after they lost their first legal case agaist Brian Kopp. The courts said that as long as he was not trying to sell WoW as his own and that it was only a guide he had the right to sell his guide, in a very breif nutshell. So while charging for these addons might be agaist Bizzard terms of service I really doubt that they will do anything about them.

Now all this said, there are other places to get these addons besides their respective websites, I wont go into any more details but I am sure if you look into it you can find them.

Just a side note: the full version of Carbonite has always been a pay to use addon; it was Carbonite_Quest that was free, as it did not have a lot of the features, and is largely a competitor for QuestHelper.

Project Lead for SmartRes and MrBigglesworthDeath. SmartRes2 coming soon!

It maybe against blizzard's policy to charge for the addon but you are certainly not allowed to steal the program and pirate it.

Um no.  As much as I am against paying for an addon, this takes it a step too far.  You are not an author of Carbonite work for Bizz.   You are NOT the mod police nor have any sort of authority to "make things right" in this regard.  Here's a perfect example of the correct way to "make things right":

Zabel801: reported to curse for linking hacked/stolen mods (enjoy your ban)

Teek, most of carbonites user agreement is now null and void with blizzard stating the code most be free and avaialbe to all. The only hold they (Carbonite) have is access to upgrades at their website. It will never be free again. Without the exposure Curse gave them and availability of bootleg copies my guess is it will cease to exist in the near future.

Carbonite Quest has already been removed from all major mod sites.

EDIT: Seems Zabel won't be able to read my response (at least, until it creates another account to post with).
