Heard a rumor on the grape vine that Curse.com was just a sneaky front by EA to get a door into the mmo community. Anyone know if this is true?

erm... no

Curse.com formed after NeT (the CEO) and a few others set up a site to distribute addons for Curse guild members. Eventually, they realised that a hell of a lot of people were using Curse from outside of the guild. Over the course of a few years, the site went from a little addon site to the full blown MMO network you see today. It's now an incorporated business of its own.

Aside from having an indirect connection to EA through Warhammer Alliance and WARDB.com, I don't think that Curse is owned by EA at all. EA have established developers like Mythic and Bioware to get their foot in the MMO door.

Just to clarify, we have no official relationships with EA.

Also, making up thoughts that you think about isn't considered as "hearing it through the grapevine".
