There are no plans to make people pay to use the Curse Client.

Whether or not there is going to be a premium mode to the CC is besides the point. The CC is not an addon, and as such does not fall under Blizzard's new rules. Besides, even if Curse does decide to release a premium version, nobody said you had to use it; you can happily go on with your addon updating in normal mode. The only difference that I found is that premium automatically updates any recognized addons.
Oh no! You can't click ONE button to update all the addons? If you can't do that, then you have bigger issues than wondering about CC's future....

Well:

Developers may not create "premium" versions of add-ons with additional
for-pay features, charge money to download an add-on, charge for
services related to the add-on, or otherwise require some form of
monetary compensation to download or access an add-on.
The bolded parts actually include the Curse client. The only thing it doesn't clearly state, if it's ok to release a premium version alongside a free one.
But considering that you paid to download addons (actually it's "easier download" Addons, it'S likely that a premium CC version is not allowed, because Blizzard clearly stares that any form of monetary compensation is not allowed. (this in my opinion includes the premium version of an otherwise free available downloader)

Pretty clean cut. "charge for
services related to the add-on" The premium client is a service related to warcraft add ons. According to the new provisions this is not allowed.
End of line

Doesnt the client also support another game? Oh that is right it DOES... so there for they CAN charge for it as it is not a WoW specific addon.

the curse client is not specific to an addon in fact it is not related to any addon and as such doesnt fall under that category.
it is a application that is run outside of wow and is in all aspects a seperate program and is against the fair trading act of a business putting out a rule to prevent another business that in no way hampers there own buiness.
ie it is legal for a company to put policies in for theft and the like as it hampers there business.
however it is not legal for mcdonalds to put in a policy to prevent any other fast food outlet to sell chips

>>>>StupidHero, ah yes, I missed/forgot that part of the new policy, I sit corrected, and apologize. In any case, I don't think we need worry about the Curse Client. One way or another, I'll wager it can still be used for free, downloading addons for free.

There is no issue with the Curse Client at all. They're not charging you for the service to download the addons, even with the premium client. You can still download them using the client for free, you just get better speeds and it's a bit easier with the premium account. The point is, the client's downloading addons is NOT a paid feature.

No matter how you word it the client is a service related to the addons. You simply can't get around that. besides, is that something you guys want to risk a court trial with blizzard over? It's their law when it comes to WoW, and the premium service can no longer legally work with WoW.
If you guys end up being sued by Blizzard doesn't say your users didn't try and warn you ahead of time.
