appears to have been modified and no longer matches our database

Doncorneo, I deleted your other post which was about the same thing. You have a much better header for this post anyway.

As for your question, what addon were you trying to update, and what was the CC trying to suggest? I don't know the ins and outs of the CC code, but there is some powerful checking for that sort of thing.

At least, in the current version. If no match is found, then the CC reports it in a tab marked Unidentified Addons. http://www.curse.com/client/ for the newest version.

I'm having the exact same problem with many of my WoW add-ons. I downloaded the installer today, ran it once with great success, and waited for the servers to come back online. When they did, I ran the Curse Client again and was surprised to see that most of my add-ons had the exact same error message reported in this forum post, "[Addon] appears to have been modified and no longer matches our database."

Let me emphasize: these are add-ons that the Curse Client matched earlier today. I have not changed the add-ons, nor did I run any program that may have changed them. And now, just a few hours later, the Curse Client can't match them.

I don't know how to fix this, and I'm averse to uninstall and reinstall because I don't want my settings, which I've worked painstakingly to perfect, to disappear.

Thoughts?

How do you still update the add-ons to the latest versions if the Curse Client isn't recognizing them as valid add-ons and therefore not searching the Curse database for updates?

The only way to get this error is if the files have been edited.  This can be caused by wowmatrix as it will edit files when it runs (just runs now update)

Please Read

WowMatrix edits addon files every single time you launch it. Even if you tell it to ignore an addon, it edits files.

The way the Curse Client works is simple. I'll explain:

  1. For each sub-folder in /Interface/Addons/ the Client reads an addon's TOC file, and discovers a list of files that WoW will load.
  2. The Client then calculates a fingerprint of each file. Basically a 64-bit number, based on the contents of the file.
  3. The Client sends these "fingerprints" to a web service, to discover what addons you have on your computer.
  4. For addons which match, the Client lists them in the Your Addons tab.
  5. Each time you start the client or click the refresh button, the Client re-scans your files. If the scanned fingerprint doesn't match the fingerprint the Client last scanned, it identifies that the addon has been modified. This is done both for your security, and to prevent the client from overwriting any changes you may have made to the addon.

Please understand that WowMatrix actively edits your addon files, despite the wishes of the addon author community. This is really not cool, and it is the reason why you're seeing the "appears to have been modified" message in the Curse Client.

doncorneo,

Thanks for the detailed breakdown of what is happening.  Your comment concerning 'pissing' contest is right on target.  I realize that Curse is a 'business' first and the developers of WoWMatrix is embedding advertising on their client so they are a 'business' first company.  Curse should just get with WoWMatrix and purchase/lease that updater as it is 'better' than the Curse updater.  Problem solved when 'logical' business thinking is put first instead of vanity.

This is happening to me as well. Earlier today I had one that was flagged. I re-installed it and it was fixed. I have not run any other add on manager since then. I ran Curse client tonight and about 20 are flagged. I understand you when you say WoWmatrix edits the files, but I have not run Wowmatrix in a week. So, if I understand the OP right, the question is; Does having the add on flagged as being edited effect anything other than Curse thinking it has beed edited?

As I've stated elsewhere the dirty detection is not targeted at wowmatrix.  Using WowMatrix however does increase the likelihood that this happens.  Dirty detection will ignore changes made to the toc file to make it more resistant to people editing tocs.

Also our fingerprint process ignores whitespace, and has nothing to do with size of the file.

Etinfall:

No, it just means it won't be included in any update all passes.

Scatmanicus:

We tried to work things out with WM beforehand, however they were and are still uninterested in working with us.

Thanks for the response. I ran Curse Client again, and non are flagged now. Curse is the only client I have been running and I do not edit any files in the WOW folder. If I did all Wow servers would immediately catch on fire and 95% of all priests would instantly die!

It's a shame things with WM didn't work out.  Incidentally, is there any reason why SunnArtPack1 thru SunnArtPack9 is showing as Unidentified and the closest match is Sunn - Viewport Art when all of those packs are part OF Viewport Art?  Also, when will AtlatWorld, FluidFrames and Portfolio be added to your database?
