client crashes on startup

Hi there!

My client crashes on startup bringing up the windows error message with report function to microsoft.

Tried to reinstall, the install works fine, but problem still exists. Does anyone know what to do to fix that?

What OS are you guys using?

I am using windows vista.

When I start curse client I get the message:
CurseClient.exe has stopped working.

A problem made the program stop working correctly.

The program closes and you will be announced if there is any solution on the problem.

Tried to translate it as good as possible, I get the message on swedish and I am not the best translator.

Can you guys e-mail your CurseClient.log file to client@curse.com ?

It's found under your user folder. For Vista, it's: C:\Users\[Your Username]\AppData\Local\CurseClient\CurseClient.log

Vista 32 bit. All available updates.

Whenever I use the "uninstall" option (I am administrator, and logged in as such), it crashes the client.

Im running Windows XP Pro SP3, but never got probs like that before with the client.

Well, i tried to find the CurseClient.log on my hard drives, but theres no such file. I thought it had been deleted during the last disk cleanup i made after several attemps to get the client running, so i tried to install once again and get that file, but it didnt help.

So I restartet my OS in safe mode and made an install, worked fine and the client seems to work, but after rebooting and running in normal mode the client started up and crashed after entering my  account data and refreshing AddOn list. Now i was sure i would be able to find the .log file, but there still isnt one.

Maybe there are some probs with steam or something? I didn't recocnize really what i've done before when i first noticed that my curse client is no longer working, but steam seems to be the only change i made to me.

greets

Edit:

Tried the client in the safe mode of my OS fully and it workes fine, deinstalled steam and some other things in normal mode, but client still crashes. Also still unable to find the CurseClient.log on my hd's. Gonna try to install some new drivers and DirectX now, seems to be a software issue with something in the normal mode of my OS Setup.

When im done i will give a feedback if it works again or not.

so long

I just posted a server-side fix which corrects the crash bug some of you may have been experiencing. Please relaunch the Curse Client, and let us know if it is working for you.

@ DOncorneo:

Didn't seem to me as a problem with WM, my CC is running fine in safe mode of windows. I tried WM when my client keeps crashing and CC detected all AddOns maintained by WM and fixed/updated them correctly.

There must be something else. Looks like we don't have the same prob with the client.

@Adamar:

Thanks for ur help first, but my client keeps crashing during launch up. As i posted last night, im gonna make some software changes to see if it works again and will report then.

Edit:

Well, what should i say.... xD Just deleted the whole CurseClient folder in my folder C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\<my account>\Lokale Einstellungen\Anwendungsdaten\ and now it works again. All the time searching for a fix and uninstalling / installing software and now such a simple step gets it working again, argh!

Actually that is HORRIBLE. No credit to authors, It is a PAY addon (which carbonite already has proven that Blizzard is against), and It could be riddled with viruses and trojans (is the source code available?). Not to mention that it charges people for other people's bandwith (addon hosts), and is a real back-door shady way to make a buck.

Jackal6,

You can remove everything created by the Curse Client by choosing Yes when asked "Do you wish to remove your personal settings as well?" during Uninstall.

It sounds like when you installed the client in safe mode, Windows somehow gave insufficient permissions to Curse Client to edit files in the settings folder.

Report this thread post

For sure i could do that, but i wanted to keep my settings first even i was not sure that i will remember my password ;D.

But after several tries to fix it and also several tries to find the CurseClient.log without any success i was so fed up that i choosed to kill anything i could find. And that fixed it.

Well, im not sure what the prob was since i got that error because i installed the client in normal mode before several times and it didn't work. And i even don't remember hat i've done what could caused the probs. However, now its working fine again and i'm glad i could fix it somehow.

Anyway, i'm very pleased u guys try to help us all and big thx for such a good work since curse is alive!

I'm having the same problem XP Pro w/SP3 and I have to say after coming back to use this client after all this time I'm not impressed not ONCE did wowmatrix crash for me when i was using it ever! >.< Some things never change I spose =/

I have full adminstrator rights on this computer, its not a rights issue i can guarantee it, its a bad coding issue =P

Upon first install of the client I could not scroll in the uncategorized pane at all I had to exit out of the client and go back in to be able to scroll. The uncategorized pane is a total mess I exit the client and go back and manually delete mods and they are still there in the pane >.< I remove them in the pane and exit and go back in and they are once again there! Wow reappearing mods! How neat! Can you do this with money in my wallet?

passionh - there are known issues with transitioning from wowmatrix to the curse client, due to ways that wowmatrix modifies addons.

Removing "all personal settings" when uninstalling seems to have solved the crash problem for me.
