Scanning addons slow.

I personally love the curse client, especially the recent incarnation, however I do have one issue with it, wondered if it was known or not and if there's a solution:  "Scanning addons in World of Warcraft..." is very slow, on my Vista business machine, especially compared to my XP pro machine, both of which have the same number of addons installed.

I dont use the client for any other games, and the scan seems the slowest upon starting the client up (something I do manually after I'm logged into Vista).

Thanks in advance for any advice/solution.

How many addons do you have installed, and how long does the scan take for you under Vista?

Hrm, it shouldn't take more than 20 or 30 seconds even on the outside.  Although the thread is low priority so if you have other intensive applications running it'll be slower.

Well, as I suspected, even less addons on the Vista install (43) and it took 7 mins 30 secs!  The actual PC hardware is different, but as both run WoW just fine, I don't think it's down to the hardware.

Software/processes wise I now strongly suspect it to be something to do with eTrust Antivirus which appears to hog the CPU for some unknown reason.  Unfortunately I cant turn this off (as it's server controlled), so I'll put up with it.  Still, it would be nice to know for sure and/or know if curse devs consider anti virus process running during CC scanning/updating.

Regardless, keep up the good work, I <3 CC  :)

Hi Druaightagh,

Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do about Anti Virus applications. I am surprised you don't see a huge performance hit when you run WoW.

Thanks for your support of the Curse Client. We really appreciate it!

For me it is also obnoxiously slow - seems to take 2-3 minutes per add on to update. With a total of 120 addons from Curse to update, this will take 6 hours.

This was all the worse because I just installed the client due to your site breaking Wow Matrix, and your client is bugged and was putting updates in the wrong folder, so after that ran for 6 hours, and the add ons were not updated, I changed the config, deleted the add ons you put in the wrong place, and and re-running now.

I already disabled antivirus, and set the Curse client priority to 'above normal'.

I dont see much network, cpu or file activity going on with it.

It looks like there is still a long way to go with this client. - especially around performance and presentation to the user.  those three always on top windows in the bottom corner of the screen are annoying, a simple log window tab would be alot more usefull, of course if updates could run in 2-3 minutes like WowMatrix or WUU did, then there wouldn't be a need for those annoying pop up windows, or to run in the background.
