Guess a rogue like WM was really putting a dent in that 3.8 million. Seeing as Curse, Inc., might be costing as much as 1 million a year to operate (and that includes all the diverse holdings of Curse, Inc., not just Curse.com, but excluding payroll), the amount of bandwidth used by WM in all reality meant nothing to Curse, Inc.
The Premium Membership is nothing but another profit generater for Curse, Inc. It is not needed to afford the operational costs, except payroll maybe.
According to the information provided by Curse about the Client, if you do not pay for Permium Membership, you will not be able to download as fast, nor will you be able to update multiple AddOns all at once or set it to automatically update AddOns. You will be able to update them, just you will have to do it one at a time.
If you have 10 AddOns needing updates (say like after a patch), you will have to spend several minutes doing it one at a time, and you will have to actually sit there doing it. With Premium Membership, you will be able to click once and all 10 will update, or will have been done for you, and you will be given priority during heavy "traffic" (for lack of better word).
As with many premium memberships, you will not have to deal with ads (of course if you download a free program for your browser, you can be ad free anyway).
There will be other things, but not all is being disclosed at this time.
Bottom line, Curse is looking to boost its sales to over 4 million per year, pay raises for everyone.
