I can understand your stance there, however I'm sure you can see that reaching viability as a company is a better solution.
Thanks for your feedback.

Agree. As a developer I understand thet there is costs involved, etc. But one can always ask for donations, and keep the adds in the client. I won't mind the adds, and for those who do, yes, buy the subscription to remove them, but keep the features the same.

I learned a long time ago while paying for wowace that being dependent on donations isn't viable either :(
I think you'll find that the non-premium client is still very usable.

I have found it is not (and BTW saying "i think you'll find" comes across incredibly arrogant).
Limiting bandwith was the straw for me. My reply on the other thread (why pay and who does it benefit) explains why I'm uninstalling CC. I hope most people do the same.

It comes off as Curse being greedy. Taking funcationality we've always had away and forcing us to pay otherwise suffer incovenaices of having to dl ea addon one at a time. Find another way to nickle and dime people, this is wholey unacceptable. And for every one of us posting here, you know there are a lot more angry people.
You dont create a premium service by taking away something from someone, then charging for it and calling it premium. For Example: Life! Premium Service includes Oxygen, Free Will and Donuts! Only at 5 bucks per months!

I can understand your point, which is why we've been very explicit about what is a premium feature and that the client was operating in a preview mode. We didn't try to hide or dupe anyone.

I do understand why the Curse Client went premium, but being a part of a "premium preview" without being exactly told what premium features were given to us to try didn't seem very smart when premium went live.
So far I'm not that dissatisfied with what you have to offer and I will not stop using the client. But the most I am unhappy about is the loss of bandwidth. While downloading QuestHelper for instance as a large addon download, it sounds like it would take forever.
The pretenses of destruction is just what destruction is.
Everything had a beginning. When destroyed, would it matter if it began in the first place?

I'd just like to point out that many of the features that have been developed for the Curse Client and the Curse Premium Service were not originally part of Curse.com's offering to users. They are all recent additions that Curse' have repeatedly stated would be subject to Premium restrictions in the future. S

I've always understood that at some point the 'premium' would require payment.
I'm happy with the price, and even more happy with the fact that the developers will see some of that money...i have no problem paying for an account for both my wife and myself. :)

Noticed the unusual message today so decided to come onto the forums and check it out.
What a bunch of babies, none of you are entitled to anything. This website STILL provides ever function I need without having to pay an extra dime. I was surprised the whole time that such a service like Curse Client would be offered without any sort of payment. When I got the message today, i said nothing more than "O Well." You can still do everything you wanted to do before, still much easier than going out and manually checking if mods are updated, then downloading, then unzipping and then copying and pasting correctly. Get a job and learn how the real world works. LOL

1. Why would you take away the update all feature? That infuriates me down to the bone. It wouldn't be so bad if you would let me download multiple items at once.
2. WHY would you slow down the bandwidth rate? I don't get it, are you trying to lose members?
3. Why are you needing money? The economy is completly shattered right now and i cannot afford to have ANOTHER monthly payment. Are you expecting that millions of people will be ok with this?
4. Cool you've got ads now that are not needed, for the people who decide not to pay anymore a month.
5. I JUST updated my deadly boss mods 5 minutes ago and its prompting me to re-update the same update again. Now its done and it took 2 minutes.
5 reasons why you changing everything is **edited** (find a less colorful abbreviation) and you need to change it back to how it originally was.

I'm very sorry that you were not aware of the premium preview. When installing the client for the first time, there is a window that pops up to inform each of our users that they are using a premium trial of the client, and that eventually the trial would end. I do hope that you still find the non-premium version of the client quite usable, if not as convenient and powerful as the premium version.

let us updating for free !!!!!
This is not acceptable to make us pay in order to gain time when we update our addons
THis monopole since wow matrix has died is not acceptable.
I call everybody to boycott the Curse client until they turn it back to the old version (updating everything for free)
Come On Curse, add some Ads everywhere if you want but don't act like that ! i would love some popups too if you don't get enough money....

There are obvious reasons as to why Curse would eventually have to charge for their services, addons have become such an integral part of many MMORPG's that people feel a need to have them. Curse provides services for both the end user, and the authors of these addons (curseforge.com). Most end users have fallen into the belief that they must update their addons each and every time an update comes out, and I feel some authors don't tag their releases properly which in the end causes users to think that minor updates are indeed necessary to the continued function of the addon. I would suggest that instead of complaining that you can't hit one button and have something else do the work for you that you try downloading addons only via their respectable web portals and see how it feels then. The free curse client is still a whole lot easier then individually downloading and extracting.
Yes, things changed but if anyone took the time to actually look at this from Curse's perspective, one would realize that they are in this as a business. Especially during these times of a tough economy they need to make some profit in order to keep offering users new services. I hope instead of jumping off here, the community will recognise that Curse needs our support, they have offered great service for almost 5 years and now when times are tough we're going to get mad about them trying to make money to keep going?

I've always understood that the Curse Client was a beta for a premium service. It was fairly obvious. Of course, I have a good amount of appreciation for programmers and developers, and therefore read the finer print. The pricing is excellent, 30$ for the year is not hard to swallow at all. The Premium client basically auto-updates your addons all the time without having to touch it. If you have the basic, you're still able to check things manually.
It's worth 30$ a year to have automation like this, and it supports addon developers too.

Mantafahrer2: Seeing as they only offer better services with the subscription and aren't forcing people to pay it, there really seems to be no violation of these new rules. I would think of it kind of like FilePlanet (points at msn, you know who you are)....

This was always a part of the premium preview. They didn't take it away, they ended the preview.
2. WHY would you slow down the bandwidth rate? I don't get it, are you trying to lose members?
Also with the premium service comes faster downloads, since you are partially paying for your bandwidth via subscription.
3. Why are you needing money? The economy is completly shattered right now and i cannot afford to have ANOTHER monthly payment. Are you expecting that millions of people will be ok with this?
The internet is not free. Bandwidth costs money along with technical support, website hosting fees, and even giving a cut to the Authors that make the addons to begin with.
4. Cool you've got ads now that are not needed, for the people who decide not to pay anymore a month.
Ads serve a two-fold purpose. One is to give incentive to upgrade to the Premium service, and two is to recoup part of the cost of you using he basic service for free.
5. I JUST updated my deadly boss mods 5 minutes ago and its prompting me to re-update the same update again. Now its done and it took 2 minutes.

I'm not sure why it was removed, I apologize if the mods were overly censored. In general I have a very liberal view on forum moderation when it comes to critical posts, some of our moderators come from other sites that were much more draconian in their methods.

I'm all for you charging as long as I don't have to be forced to pay to use it, but you have
Capped my download speed (I get that)
Put ads in the client (I expect that)
Don't let me download them all at once (Ok, fine)
Disable update all button
I still don't see why the first three are not enough. Can't it just put some annoying ad or something up until the transfer of all the addons completes if you use "Update All"?

You said it exactly like I wanted to!
I can fully understand the need to pay for hosting and network costs, and it's great that you pay a little bit to the addon developers. However: I would GLADLY trade the update all button for an extra ad!
Capping the download speed: fine, wow addons aren't like DVD-images anyway (I have time to wait for them)
Putting ads in the client is also fine, it's a lot better than the emails that flood the Gmail junkbox anyway. :)
Downloading one addon at a time is fine by me, more addons simultaneously only slows the individual downloads anyway (especially on a capped down rate)
BUT, I'd be really glad if you didn't remove my update all-button! (alternatively, you could remove it altogether, instead of having it there like a goddamn teaser! :@) Spending minutes of waiting without being able to go anywhere because you have to click on download for the next addon is frustrating, especially when there are other applications which do the job for free (*WoWMatrix, for example - they have recently become rather tempting....*)
That'd be all, folks! (please take this to your "suggestion box")

I will totally be down with paying for it if i know how much go toward the authors and i hope it is most of it because with out them curse would get a lot less traffic. so in short if any one know the % that goes toward the author please let me know, and if u are like me u have way to many add ons to donate to each one separately but would be totally down with supporting them all in one spot. so long as it is not just a ploy to get more people to sign up for the premium version. (I'm pretty sure that curse get their fair share of revenue from advertisements)
Thanks
