Hi,
The curse client recently updated itself to disaplay ads and disable the update all button. So as a potential customer I thought I'll tell you what I dont like about your product and what I would like fixed to cinsider buying the updater:
1) When I clicked on the advert in Curse, it brought up IE and not my os default browser -- firefox. That's a BIG turn off. Please fix this if you want my money. I expect any product I buy to obey my stated os preferences and use firefox. Launcing IE is a big no-no unless it's my default browser (based upon os settings).
2) you're missing several addons that are only avaialbe on Wowinterface - Carbonite, Doublewide and Lightheaded. You'll need to woo thease authors to join curse if you want my money. Why would I buy your product if two of the most active mods in the game - Carbonite and lightheaded, both of which are often updated at least twice a month, are not updated by your client?
IF you are commited to working with thease authors to get thier products either on curse or get curse pulling thier mods into your update cycle somehow and fix the launcing the system default browser, I would likely subscribe to curse for a few months trial period. IF you can get both items fixed I wuld buy your product for a year. Altnitivly you could work with wow interface to pull in the mods that are not in curse from Wowinterface and fix launching the system default browser.
Thats not to say the curse client is not maturing, it is. The current 3.0.0.4 is fairly nice, but not quite ready for me to spend the US$30/year you're asking. Please note that I've already "bought" Carbonite, donated to Autioneer, Ackis and Prat. So I'm your target consumer -- I actauly buy or donate money to add on authors.
FWIW, I'm using Vista x64, sp1, with IE7, Firefox 3.0.10. Firefox is set as the system defautl broswer for .url, .html, .htm ie has no defaults at all.

Elseer,
Thank you for the feedback. I'm going to forward this on so we can look into fixing the incorrect browser issue.
We're also investigating potential ways of providing access to addons not on Curse, but it may be a longer process than we'd like as we're going to respect copyrights and other websites' bandwidth.
But again, thank you for the feedback. The Premium service is still in its infancy, so any feedback will help shape its future.

I can understand your points completely.
We are actively looking to work with more addon authors to host their work, but ultimately that is their decision and we won't make it for them.

I just logged on to make the exact same complaints that Elseer made. Although I'm not happy with a pay-to-play, I would buy the premium client if both of the above issues are addressed. I don't see the point of paying for an addon manager when I have to use a different one from the other major addon provider for the other 15 addons that Curse doesn't support/ provide. And dog-forbid I open ie7 for any reason!!!
The only other issue I have is with the "dirty file" notice I get on two of my addons that I modified to work with the latest patch. Any way to ignore the dirty file problem without ignoring the addon altogether?
I am extremely happy to see that two mods quickly answered in regards to these concerns. I find that Curse appears to listen to it's members when we calmly bring our issues to them.
Thank you,
Pat aka Buddlespit

Hey all,
Thanks for the swift and professional replies. Thinking about the second matter it's a kind of a delicate social issue, which I totaly respect. I'll look forward to seeing the default browser fix get implemented when there is time and resources adn I'll hope the matter of advertising gets sorted as enlightended self interest takes over - which is why I would purchase a trial of curse once point #1 is addressed.

We're rexamining the issue there with dirty files. It's just a hard thing to balance so that it doesn't do what isn't wanted, and does do what is wanted.

One of our developers has been looking at how to force the ads to use the default browser, but I can't promise when or if he'll figure his head around it.

Sorry i wont buy the new client im sure there will be a free mod-updater soon again and then switch to that.
i totally dont understand why users get forced from one day to another to pay for something that was delivered all the time
for free wich clearly looks for me like ripping the users off...
PS: the new client is way slower as the addfree before was... (OS: WinXp 32Bit, 2GB Ram)

I'm not only not "rushing out to buy the the new for pay curse client," I won't use it at all.
I used to be a religious Curse user. Then I made some fixes (tweaks, corrections, reworks, whatever you want to call it) to the Sea library and no matter what I did, the client would overwrite my fixes. I complained bitterly to no avail; I still had to copy my (now archived) version of the library into the add-ons folder. When I say "to no avail" I mean that not only was it not fixed, but my issue was never even acknowledged.
So (I can unzip files on my very own) I started pulling things in individually and when I found a new add-on I wanted to try that I could possibly get anywhere other than Curse.com, I did so. And I'm much more satisfied than I was before. I recommend (and will continue to, btw) against anyone using your client and site wherever possible. To be frank, I no longer trust you, so anything you produce in future is also suspect.

I only wrote a little PGM quick and dirty. so i define 2 positions for the Mouse. I enter a count. With this i can reinstall all my 120 Addons automaticly with the free client. It will not be nessesary to update all addons every day, but it is the simple ans cheap way.
And i have enough time for a good dinner :)

Are you the current maintainer/author of the Sea lib? If you are, then you have a valid complaint. But if you aren't, then no, you can't complain. Why? Because whoever is the valid, current author of the Sea lib (or any other addon that you may have customized) has priority. The Sea lib is an intellectual property of that author, and not of you.
You are more than welcome to modify any addon for WoW, wherever you find said addon. But don't complain when the original author's work overwrites your own. And besides, if you right-click any addon in the Curse Client, you can select "ignore" and the CC won't touch it anymore.

Bandezar, you can right click on addons inside the Curse Client, and toggle them to be ignored, at which point the client will stop overwriting your changes when a new version of the lib is available. You can then manually download the lib and merge the changes manually if you have compatibility problems in the future.

Me? No, my impression is that there is no such person as the "current maintainer/author" of the Sea library; more's the pity. I strongly resent the implication, though, that I am in some way stealing the original author's intellectual property. I do not, have not, and will not redistribute the fixes to anyone since I strongly believe in the owner's rights to that property. So let's take a more general example. Assume I write an add-on called Boxes (MY intellectual property) and someone else on the planet decides to also create an add-on called Boxes. He decides to distribute his and I decide the opposite. When the client overwrites mine with his are you going to say that I have no complaint because I shouldn't have named mine something someone else might call theirs? Probably, given the response you made to my previous post.
As I indicated, the method you describe did not work, which is why I won't use the new one (though I appreciate the information, if not the attitude).
And thanks, Prodigal, for your attempt to help without the implication that I am stealing someone else's property.

I think if you pull the SVN copy down from curseforge and leave the .svn folders, it wil be marked a "Working Copy" and ignored automatically.
