So, let's say I make a website and it has an addon "PWNINTEHFACE-AUTOWINBUTTON" addon. Isn't it against the law for you to be making money of my addon? Shouldn't I be recieving a percentage or something?
Just wondering. I don't want an actual author suing or something and shutting down Curse. I might not like it that you crippled my addon, but I still use the free version and it's alright.

You sure should receive a percentage! 20% of all Curse Premium revenues go back to authors that enroll in the Author Reward Program.

As a quick reply, they are selling a service, not the add-ons. Nothing precludes an author from posting his/her addon on another site. :)

Oh ok. So they just have to sign up for that? Well then that seems fair, I was just wondering. I love curse, it makes life SOOO much easier I would hate if it got put down because they accidentally overlooked some legality thing.
Oh, and BTW, someone should make that addon, because I needs it.

Very true, farlin.
We don't mind if you post your addon on another site, or two, or twenty. As long as you post on Curse, we'll be happy. ;-)

every other website that started free and moved to pay services that ive been a member of, when they MAKE the transition, the existing userbase is automatically made premium for life. Ive always continued using those sites and giving word of mouth because i do feel appreciated. Lets face it curse, the people your trying to charge money from MADE YOU WHO YOU ARE. That just pisses me off. And lets NOT forget your trying to compete w/ a service that still remains free and easier to use. This is very large strike two... not bad, two reasons i should hate curse, both within the same week... cant wait for #3

Omg. You guys are in like, every thread.
You're not entitled to have free foot massages and back rubs for life.
Greedy users are greedy! They said it was a beta for the premium client long ago. Show me where they said beta users would keep the premium service for life, and you might have a valid point. In the meantime, if it was so helpful to YOU, hand over some cash already!

Hmmm *checks SmartRes' downloads compared to Omen's* Right, so Omen's downloads dwarf mine, almost getting as many DAILY downloads as my addon has had in its LIFETIME. Strangely, however, I am still getting reward points. Definitely not as many as Xinhuan, but I am getting them.

Everybody wins! Except the end user of course, because they have to
either a) be forced to view ads (which make curse money) b) give curse
money or c) try to use an alternative which curse might try to cripple
(to get more money)
If authors only put their addons on Curse, then how is word about the addon supposed to spread? Curse is huge, popular, and easy to use, but most authors would agree that having their mod on more than one site is a good thing. I certainly do, and so both of my addons are on multiple sites. That gives people who like my addons more choices to find them. Maybe they like one site over another. I don't know. In the end, it really doesn't matter, even if Curse is giving rewards. They didn't for five years, and it is wonderful they are now, but I can tell you that 4.5 years ago no author expected such good news!
Project Lead for SmartRes and MrBigglesworthDeath. SmartRes2 coming soon!

Blurr, I don't see that happening. The second you start charging for access to, or for premium versions of an addon, you enter the realm of Blizzard's ToS, and encouraging Authors to infringe that is not something we'd want to do.

It's not greedy users your "premium" moron, its just pissed off consumers seeing a service lose it's appeal because the administrators of that service got greedy. The consumers made the service as popular as it was because of the services functionality, there are other services just as functional that will take the consumers in just as readily which will only go to show what a poor business plan this was, especially the way it was rolled out. There was no date set, it was just wake up, log in and find it changed with no fanfare or forewarning whatsoever???? STUPID MISTAKE!!!

There were pop-ups about how you were using a Premium Preview, and there were multiple posts I believe of how the Premium was coming up and it was getting ready for release.
Everyone likes pie. I just know it.

Hmm, but if so many people (self included) are saying that they did not get the message then it was not a very effective way of informing the userbase that there was a change happening to the client.
For the record: I don't mind about the ads on the client, doesn't bother me in the least. Disabling several features of the client unless a payment (an over-priced payment IMO) is rec'd is not OK.

Hello,
I run WoW on Linux, and WoWMatrix is the only updater that works
properly. Please consider hosting your addons on their servers, to
accommodate Linux users.
