Was better? Why don't you want to support Curse? They pay for their website that takes a lot more than $4 a month.

WowMatrix Program maybe be or was better then the curse program however they still leeched the addons from curse.com taking their bandwidth. I've read at least 300 rants about the curse client now and people upset about the change. IMO the curse client ALWAYS sucked and i've been using the website not the client since the loss of the WaU client and people can do the same and not be lazy or just help support curse. What do you get from helping support curse? well of course the obvious CURSE and its sister sites like wowdb.com and so on! blizzard isn't paying curse's bills and they need some help from it's users so lend them a hand or go else where are your choices you do not have to use curse

I don't mind paying the $30/yr or whatever.  My issue is that a PayPal account is required for payment.  I've been burned by PayPal so many times in the past, and I refuse to have a PayPal account.  They require you to tie all kinds of info/bank/cc info to use the account and I don't like that.  I've used sites that use them ONLY to process the CC transaction, and they do not (and cannot by law) keep the data.  That's the only way I'll use anything PayPal related.

OH MY GOD!!!!!  SOMEONE'S MAKING A PROFIT!  HOW DARE THEY!!!

Seriously, WTH is wrong with turning a profit.  I'm personally not into that sort of thing, but jeeze!

And, by the way - while you were kvetching and searching up Curse's annual sales, did you also look up their annual overhead?  Quick economics lesson:  Gross Sales - Taxes - Overhead = Net Profit.  Not that Curse's Net Profit isn't high - I'm sure it is.  But your posted info is hardly decisive proof.

Also - did you check what Blizzard is making in annual "total sales"?  You know that they could charge $5 less a month and still pull in mad cash, right?

If you think the service is worth it, pay for it.  Otherwise don't.  Quit complaining.

You sound like you don't understand what you're replying to. All he did was counter all the terribly bad arguments that the extra charge is necessary for offsetting costs. He didn't say anything else. But I would say that it is lame for them to do this. It is lame because the client wasn't good anyway, and now that they have already gotten the competition to cooperate with them or die off, such as WoWAce, they are making the decision to make the service crappier. They have hugely inconvenienced addon users by doing this. It's like a bait and switch. No one is complaining about their right to make a profit, but I understand people like you just like to take every opportunity to make a point, which is why you took Don's post out of context and tried to make it sound ridiculous.

Also, this is a FORUM, where people discuss things. Unless there is a better forum to discuss the client, this is one of the only ways for people to voice their opinions about it and be heard.

I agree that just posting the sales doesn't give the whole picture.  eBay has sales in the BILLIONS, yet it's profits are in the low millions.

I'm using the client now and I'm not paying for it so I don't really understand what the OP is really bitching about.  It may be limited to one at a time, but you don't HAVE to pay to use it.

As the previous poster said, if you don't think it's worth it, then don't pay for it, that's really the bottom line.  Companies are in the business to MAKE MONEY!  Shame on them for wanting to increase their profits!  Honestly, the biggest thing that is getting me to interested is that they claim that some of the money will go back to the authors.  I'm a big supporter of my favorite add-ons and like to see a company giving back.

Dizzy49, you don't need to use a PayPal account.  When you are taken to PayPal in the subscription process, you have the option of using either your PayPal account or a credit card.

This is why there are anti-monopoly laws.  They put ACE updater out of business then put WOWMatrix out, now they charge for the same thing that was free?

Honestly, if it were like $5-10 for a year then I'd sogn up, but I am not paying another $30 to play a game.

Prodigal, when you click to pay via Credit Card, it says "Signing up for a PayPal account will be required to complete this purchase.".  The process creates a PayPal account with the information used, and then uses the account to process the payment.  I am familiar with the process/tactic.  It's a clever way for PayPal to get more users, wether the users know it or not.  Since my email address is registered as a PayPal account, it gives me an error and will not let me proceed.  However, what REALLY has me worried is that if I enter a bogus (but valid) email address, then it says my Debit Card is registered with PayPal.  I have *NEVER* used this Debit Card with PayPal.  I've had it replaced AT LEAST twice since I left PayPal.  The Debit Card is tied to the same bank, and the same account that I used when I was on PayPal, but PayPal should not have access to that information.  This is when I put on my tin foil hat and wonders how/why PayPal has that information.

I think it's a good investment, a solid and fast program and you should quit being cheep. Go ask mommy and daddy for $30 or just do it the old fashioned way. Posting a whine on a forum will do nothing productive.

I must say I really don't like the idea of having to pay for the Curse Client, but whatever. Curse has been my primary addon site for years now, I guess it's time I gave something back.

... I miss WoWMatrix.
