Whenever I try to install an addon directly from the site using the "install via curse client" link my curse client opens from my system tray and nothing happens.
The first time I tried it I was prompted by Firefox to associate a program with the type of link, and I did so choosing curse.exe.
Firefox version is 3.0.10, curse client is 3.0.0.4.
Any ideas?

Ensure you are allowing Javascript on the curse.com website. You can also use the find an addon tab in the curse client to install your addons.

If I understand, the client is active in your system tray, you click install via curse client, and the client activates, but doesn't actually download?

I have the issue as described.
Using Windows 7 Ultimate RC1 and Vista Ultimate, both x64.

Java is enabled. Yes, currently the addon tab is the only way I have to install addons (other than manually)...that's not the point of my thread.

Correct. The client opens up from the system tray and does nothing. The browser seems to know that it needs to open the curse client, but the curse client isn't taking the next step and downloading the addon.
EDIT: I just tested with IE 8 and a popup comes up confirming that I want to open the link with "CurseClient". I click "Allow" and it does even less, it doesn't even open up the curse client out of the system tray. I opened it manually and the addon wasn't installed.
I've tried this with multiple addons on the site, none are working.

This still doesn't work. And when you try to install via the website the client no longer installs mods that you try to install through the client.

Could you extrapolate on this behavior?
i.e. if you try to install via the psyn protocol, it is somehow corrupting normal installing through update/find an addon in the client?

(Sorry it took me so long to reply, I didn't have reply notifications turned on.)
When I try to install a mod through the website (the "install via curse client" button) nothing happens. The curse client is sitting in my system tray doing nothing.
After a failed attempt at trying to install a mod through the website I then use the client to search for, and install the addon. I find the addon, select it and click the install button. The download bar quickly pops up and then disappears. No mod installed. Click the install button again, same thing. Click it again, same thing.
If I then File -> Exit the client and reopen it I can then install the addon through the client.

It is clear that somehow the associations for psyn aren't working.
This problem is difficult to diagnose remotely. Some other options I would recommend trying are:
* Complete uninstall of the client (including personal settings), then reinstall. Most of the time that will refresh the psyn links
* Checking the permissions on where it is trying to write to (the 3.0.0.8 client has better reporting of write errors too)
The part that is most confusing and shouldn't be associated behavior is how trying to install from the website affects internal installing. It is possible there is a network issue where it is still trying to wait for one reply when the client-based attempt to install happens.

Hostile,
It appears yoru configuration has become corrupted somehow (judging by the sqlitedb errors)
I'd recommend a full uninstall (personal settings too) of the client and reinstall. Leave your actual wow\interface\addons folders as is.

added the log, the omen download was from a curse.com link not the client list and then the rebuilding packages stuff is from me clicking the Xperl auto download link 6 times to make it generate log entries.

I uninstalled 3.0.0.7 and rebooted my machine. When it came back up I dl'd the client again and installed.
Installing via the website still isn't working.
Firefox 3.0.11
1) If I exit out of the client then click on the "install via curse client" button curse launches but doesn't install the addon.
2) If I click on the "install via curse client" button with curse open it does nothing.
There is no entries about any of this captured in the log file.
When I click on the "install via curse client" button in IE8 I get the following prompt:

But still, nothing happens. Same deal as Firefox, with the exception of the prompt above.

Hostile,
If possible please open your registry edit (regedit from start->run) and navigate to the following key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Wow6432Node\psyn\shell\open\command
Then verify that the location pointed to for the client is correct.

Err, the comment about checking the psyn association was meant for Hostile.
I believe your difficulty can be resolved merely by refreshing your "Find an addon" list.

I ran a search on my registry and there is not a key, value or data string with the term "Wow6432Node" in it. I also searched for "psyn" for giggles and got nothing. A search for the entire key also came back negative.
I don't have any 3rd party sofware (spybot s&d or the like) blocking registry writes so I'm not sure why this is happening. Do you have the key and data for me to insert into my registry?

On non 64-bit machines, create a key called HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\psyn\shell\open\command
In it put: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Curse\CurseClient.exe" -url "%1"
Or wherever your client is installed

Hmm, I just went into the registry to insert this key and it's there. I'm not sure how my searches weren't hitting before. I could have sworn that I browsed through as well and there was no psyn entry...
Anyway, the key is there but addons still won't install from the website.

This seems like a serious enough issue to get special focus.
It seems to be mostly with Vista under 64-bit, but both IE and Firefox (which makes sense since it is an OS association) Unfortunately I'm running Vista 64-bit for my own machine. Perhaps it could be related to user logins/permissions.

firefox, BUT! it does not let me install addons THROUGH the curse client itself. its not only the links on the website, but installing through searching THROUGH THE CLIENT itself

well if i exit curse client and turn it back on, login again. it lets me install modes directly from the curse program, but if i click a link in firefox so far it makes it impossible to install from the client itself untill i exit relog curse.

Oh so there are two problems:
* The psyn links themselves are not working at all.
* The "find an addon" method of installing works unless you try to do a psyn install, then it doesn't work until you restart.
Clearly something about the psyn download is interfering. My first suspicion is that the client starts the psyn but something blocks it (perhaps a network configuration stalls it?) which prevents the client from doing further downloads. I'll set up some test scenarios to see if I can duplicate that behavior.

I was having the same issue - Curse Client open - using the website and using the tab that states install via curse client---does nothing. It will make it flash like its just about to fire up....but its more like a fail/fizzle. The whole point of the tabs on the website is to know what your installing and what not - and pretty much do it instantly. Now that it hasnt worked for "MONTHS" I have to search for them manually and hope to god its the correct one and not some hacked up version or lookalike...and pray to god its not something malicious----------as there is no rating whatsoever.
