No I'm not a user of a private server, I pay my 15 a month, but I have heard that some people can run legitamate private servers, i.e. they buy(?) a server from blizzard. Is this true or is there no such thing as a legal private server?

I doubt it.

There's only 1 company that has licences to host WoW, I believe in China or Korea (atleast somewhere in that area), but they are the only host in that area. It's not possible to buy your own server from Blizz. Every private server that's around is illegal.

Only for tournaments.  There have been a few in the past, and one coming up at DreamHack that will have their own personal official WoW server, but I wouldn't expect it to become commonplace.

Hmm, I have heard that there only illegal if they make you pay? Or any form of pay for items...

I may be wrong, But if i was, Woulnt all prevate servers be shut down?
