Known issues with Curse.com

A lot of the same issues are cropping up over and over.  I want to make a list of all the known, existing issues out there, which will make it easier for them to be addressed.  This won't cover issues with CurseForge or WowAce however.  Not will it contain Curse Client issues.

The format will be the issue, along with the main forum thread if applicable.

1. You cannot tag addons anymore.  It allowed you to edit them, however when you try to save them, it gives you an error.

2. Password change/forgotten password e-mails do not work all the time.  (Unconfirmed)

3. When you log in, you are not redirected to the page from wence you came from.

4. Spam.  There is a lot of spam comments out there, usually linking to a .cn website.

5. Moderators cannot delete comments from blogs or user pages.  A banned user does not have their comments removed from user pages when the option is chosen.

6. Character profiles are not being upload to db sites (wowdb, wardb, etc).  In fact any sort of data is not being uploaded.

7. Searching has many issues (addons do not come up when they should for example).

8. E-mails from Curse.com are flagged as spam.

9. There are categories missing (aka http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/default.aspx is missing profession categories).

10. Game versions are unknown for some games (http://aoc.curse.com/downloads/aoc-addons/details/simplicity-aoc-mod.aspx and http://aoc.curse.com/downloads/aoc-addons/details/caligari-bottombars.aspx)

11. Your inbox displays at most 20 messages for the notification, no matter how many you have.

12. The profile box in the top right states you're logged in, however you actually aren't as when you go to do something else you're asked to login again.

13. Permalink doesn't seem to actually link to the post I'm permalinking.

Yes this is something I've been looking into.  Lets make it easy on the dev and get some examples of how the search fails.

Report this thread post

Ok, easy ... it's so broken any word shows that ;)

Step 1) To make sure we start from the same point: Go to any site with a search (WdLW)

Step 2) Enter 'coords' (or repair or whatever) (Search)

Step 3) Count results ... Here its 6 results for coords (5 for repair).

Step 4) Open curse client and search there.

Step 5) Count results ... Here its 13 results for coords (11 for repair)

Roughly 50% of results are missing!

There are categories missing (aka http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/default.aspx is missing profession categories).

Categories are sorted Z-A instead of A-Z (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/categories/achievements.aspx)

Missing categories now show up

Are you sure about not being able to delete Blog comments?

Default sort order will be fixed next push back to its intended default of Sort by daily downlooads, descending

I really, really wish no 1 would get some attention. Its a pretty big outage. Any new mod is at a very distinct disadvantage. 2 weeks ago someone (I think Prodigal) said they'd look at it that week. No feedback, no progress, bug still there. whether they want to hear it or not, contrast this to the wowinterface experience. Uploaded my mod there, within 15 minutes it was searchable.

I fully realise Curse has no vested interest in taking me seriously beuase they don't get money from me but if you are going to offer a community service as an upsale vehicle for premium membership, I would think that ensuring that features that actually have users finding what they want and coming back would receieve considerable attention. Just my ffrustrated $0.02.

Game versions are marked as unknown for some games:

http://aoc.curse.com/downloads/aoc-addons/details/simplicity-aoc-mod.aspx

http://aoc.curse.com/downloads/aoc-addons/details/caligari-bottombars.aspx

As examples.

Just a heads up: Seems like #1 has finally been fixed, thank you very much! One question though. Once you have tagged an addon how long does it take before it is searchable by those tags? What's the refresh time on the search database?

#7 Seems fixed,too ... BIG THANK YOU!!

If it is then I am way confused. I absolutely can not get my mod to appear in any searches unless I give it the exact name. I want it to show up when a user searches for "suicide", since its a suicide kings loot mod. I changed the name in curseforge to have the word suicide in it, I added tags with the words "suicide", "suicide kings" and "suicidekings". I rubbed on blue belly paint and chanted the alphabet backwards while turning thrice widdershins in the full moon light, and nothing I do will make my mod show up. Here's a link it its main page on Curse, perhaps I am doing something wrong. http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/ksk.aspx

Searching for konfer shows your addon listed with the name "KonferSK".

Seems your changes of the name didnt make it to every place in the db ...

And therein lies a problem :/

Report this thread post

Issues 1, 3, and the Category sort order should be fixed.

I'm trying something out with the search to work around some limitations of the db's full text engine.  Project slugs are currently not in the search criteria, which is why searching for Konfer works, but not ksk.

I'll try to get the unknown categories patched up today as well.

Just updated the initial post, with crossed off stuff, etc. :)

Thanks a bunch Prodigal!

I'm not sure what a project "slug" is. The title of the mod is "KonferSK (Suicide Kings)" and it has a bunch of tags that contain the word suicide. Yet, searching for the word "suicide" doesn't show the mod. At the very least I would expect that the word suicide being in the title would get it noticed by the search engine, but it currently does not.

www.curseforge.com/foo

Foo == project slug.

Report this thread post

Ah, thanks Ackis.

Should I file a separate bug that project titles and tags are not part of the search criteria, or is Prodigal on top of that? Its hard to tell from the replies here.

Search looks fixed now I think Cruciformer.

Also adding a new item to the list: Inbox displays 20 messages max when you have more.

Another minor "bug" to mention

When I load one of my addonsites as first page of a session I see at the top of the site that I'm logged in.

But at the bottom for the comments I get:

> You need to login or register to post.

Permalink doesn't seem to actually link to the post I'm permalinking. Using either Firefox 3.5.3 Or IE 6.0.2900xxx Links made using the permalink button on a given Mod page post returns a page load to the top of the page, not to the comment. Am I missing something? Adding an option to automatically search all of a user's (mine in this case) comments on various mod pages would be insanely useful. Only way I can find to see my previous comments is to manually search a given mod page by page. An auto email update of responses to comments watched would be nice too. If I'm missing how to do this (any or all) please educate me! :D Thank you!

Just update point 6 to be a bit clearer.

Thanks Ackis! Are you updating this thread with new posts as issues get resolved (to trigger email notification)?

I'm used to press enter when I'm done with a line.

And then again.

And again.

I've not seen this behavior in other forumsoft ... every line is put in

Code:
<p> LINE </p>
which leads to empty lines

added where only normal linefeeds should be.

I cannot get the "install with Curse Client v4" links to work on an addon page. It takes me to a page that has the message "A server error has occurred." I am using Firefox 3.53 on Windows 7 x64. I have the absolute newest version of the v4 Curse Client.

Report this thread post

I forgot to add to my post above the addon was http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/teksloot.aspx

Not sure if that matters.

I second this. Just clicking the "client" link on the main site is giving me this error, making me unable to get any information on or download either client. Windows XP / Firefox 3.5.3

I'm just updating when I add new issues to it, not when anything gets crossed off.

Sorry for the late response, I'm extremely sick.

I'm getting that this is working for me.  Aka I go to:
http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/arl.aspx#568663

And it jumps me down to the appropiate spot on the forums.

And issue #9 is fixed (categories).
