Anybody else getting REALLY annoyed with all the "get WoW gold" forum threads? At first I was reporting them in the hope they'd go away or be taken care of by a moderator but when I came back the next day or so they were still there.. the same ones i reported. Is there anything that can be done (is there any real use in reporting them) or do we just have to live with these rude advertisements?

The ones reported, or found on our own, we IP ban. Although you are correct, it is obnoxious. There has to be some way to filter posts, even if it affects everybody, it might be a good thing.

I'll have to agree, this website is turning into the "Find Your Gold Here" website. It's getting WAY out of hand and action needs to be taken.

Stopping the bad posts is not as easy as just IP banning. Most gold sellers and account hacker use dummy or proxy IP's. Never their own. Banning those is worthless. Much better is a better user verification tools. Use of challenge- response tests (Captcha for example) to stop bot posting helps greatly. Requiring new users to have a valid WoW character (or whatever game the post aims at) works well too. Make making an account have a wait period till they can post will work too. New bloggers should have a Mod check before they get their blog approved. Curse is a bit behind the times at the moment in how they handle posts.

Not only in WOW but with other popular games like Atlantica Online. There are a lot of Gold Sellers and I am very annoyed thinking that they are getting profit out of other people by doing illegal transactions. I've once heard that when you try to buy Gold from a Gold Seller there will be a high chance that your account will get hacked because they are using some softwares or malwares to hack your account. This is based from an experience of a friend. He almost spent thousands just to buy from these Gold Sellers.

What I dont understand is this: There are plenty of authors out there that write mods for WoW that filter out the spam. Spammenot, was mentioned.. There's the much-loved and quite wonderful BadBoy: Anti Spam Reporter and the equally fabulous TradeFilter. Why hasn't someone at Curse thought to hire one of these guys/gals to write a bit of code for the website to do the same kind of things? I know it's different but can't be THAT hard if other sites out there are doing it.

I'm not really involved in the general day-to-day operations of Curse.com right now; I currently run World of Raids. I mostly help DoranM out when I can on the site relating to news articles on WoW / other games. The best way to get something like this taken care of is through reports or emailing community@curse.com.

Daily I have reported abuse as have many others.
My guess is quite a few people have contacted curse about this. Yet, nothing done..
DoranM, seems the ball is in your court now. How do you propose to keep your users safe?
Your addons are totally safe but your forums and blogs are infected
daily. More Moderators will not fix it. Deleting IP's will not either.

Yah, seriously. If the best we can be told is to report it and something will be done... I'm sorry to say this but that just seems worthless. The posts are still there the next day after being reported. Honestly--why can't some kind of filter software be created?

If posts are reported and not deleted, that's a moderation issue. I'll talk with DoranM about it tomorrow to see what we can do to keep this consistent.

Right now you have numerous goldseller and keylogger threads up. Kody, really now, they post faster than your mods can get rid of them. Fix the system so when your mods do their jobs it stays done. I come here to read the blogs and see what is new in WoW but you have to admit when all I see is clicker type links and buy more gold here cheaper your site is lessened greatly. Is what you see what you want to have on your site???

Thanks, appreciate that you guys are agreeing to at least talk to the higher-ups about it. It was really frustrating at first to just be told to report it when that doesn't seem to be doing anything =/

Today's blog has at this time items well over 6 hours old. You can't even see the real blogs on your front page right now....

Blogs seem to fall by the wayside for some reason, I had gone through and nuked all the spammers I saw there and in this forum.
If you're on IRC you can always ping me to look at something as I mainly stay in the bug reporting forums here.

I just heard that the blog feature is getting removed, but I am not sure when that will take place, other than "soon".

I log in daily directly to the blogs to take care of any spam listed. I know several other mods check over there as well. Since the removal of the "Blog" button, I will admit it got overlooked for a while. Since about a week after, I have a shortcut on my browser bar to remind me.
I don't mean to be rude, so please don't take it as such. Please refrain from registering complaints about something being posted for X hours. Contrary to popular belief, none of us sit here and hit F5 repeatly at the forums/blogs/news/reports all day, every day. We are volunteers with lives of our own too guys. Generally speaking, spam doesn't exist for an entire day.
It's asked that you simply report violations as you see them; If something is still present 24 hours later, then please PM a moderator/admin about it. These kinds of threads, although good in intention, just start a cascade of repeat complaints and rarely bring anything helpful.
With that note, nothing more can be gained from this discussion. Thread locked.
