I'll take the Prat idea straight away.

There's an empty action bar under the food waiting for more actions, maybe ;^)

I actually like the SBF buff bars stacking at the bottom of the screen.
My eye goes to them naturally without distracting from the action.
There are three stacks of combined buffs/debuffs. 1)Me 2)Target 3)Pet/Minion (to one side).
Left side of screen is reserved for Xperl and Omen.

ZOMG Buffs could go anywhere in fact, as it's semi-automatic in operation.

I may well make the black bar narrower and leave Satrinas in the game frame.
I'm still finding the wide angle a bit strange and small.

Thanks for all your advice so far.

    Well, you're getting there.
Download Prat real quick and .. wait, I'll copy and paste that from another UI I commented:
    1. Configute prat to hide the scroll buttons (use the mouse wheel to scroll) and resize the chatbox to align with the screen edge.
    2. Get rid of the brackets. Player names do not need brackets to be recognized as such. Channel names maybe. Prat also shortens channel names to whatever you configure it to. I use 1, T and 3 and none for guild and party because the text color is unique anyways. This would save at least 6 characters per line.
    ~Done with Prat~
After doing that, why not move the food action bar above the others? Or below, whichever you like. After doing that the combat log would fit in better.
I don't think the buffbar is a good idea where it is right now. I'd either put it under the minimap and align it to the right or just keep the original layout. SBF is great, you can filter out unimportant buffs to keep your screen clear. You can even create several bars, white/blacklisting specific buffs or debuffs.
After doing all that, adjust the black bar (I use the skinner bottom bar, not the viewport) to be only as high as you need it.
Should be very nice in the end ;)

Haven't got used to the wider angle/smaller view yet.
    I'm viewing on a 4:3 19" CRT at arm's length.
Wide view could be useful in combat (attacks from side esp.) I suppose but there's a limit to how small I can make things and still be able to see properly.
    Time will tell.
IRID1UM 's idea of making non combat buttons "mouse-over" only/fade is a very good one though.
