  • Survey Says: Stop with the gaming studies.

[Happy Hour] Posted Sep 19, 2008 0 Comments

Normally I don't get annoyed by studies, but then again normally they aren't so incessant, dramatic, or plentiful as they have been recently. The game industry is literally being inundated with study after study, some over things no one in their right mind would care about. Take for example this study on Next Generation today titled "Study: Reviews Matter" . Really? I mean seriously... these guys had to do a study to figure out that game reviews impact purchases and consumer opinion? Or how about Gamasutra's article on a study that finds M-rated games sell best . I'm willing to bet it has nothing at all to do with the fact that those games' predecessors have been mainstream for a decade now, whereas E-rated games typically serve a niche player population and aren't remotely close to the mainstream status that games like GTA, BioShock, Half-Life, Doom and others are at. Then we have the studies involving MMO's, like the one that finds players highly...
